I am totally stumped here gang. I have a .12 TORQ engine in an older Duratrax Maximum ST that just will not start. I have gone through all the online troubleshooting guides (fuel line, glow plug, starter, high speed and low speed though the later is hard to calibrate when you cannot start, piston wear test etc.) and still cannot get this engine to start. I have a .28 on a MGT 4.6 that starts first pull...with the same glow plug and fuel. This engine used to start though has always been difficult to tune. It sat for 2 year but there does not seem to be any corrosion, rust or wear. I am wondering if this is an air leak, but I can tell you it seems to get good compression that holds.

Any advice from the vets here?

Thanks,
Matthew

pull the glow plug out see how much pinch is left. if engines don't have enough pinch they may run funny or not at all.

Fixed it! It was a fuel delivery problem. I had checked this previously but never pulled the fuel hose off at the carb to see if it was coming out when primed. It wasn't. So I pulled the pressure hose of the muffler and blew into it and sure enough fuel came out no problem. So I attached the glow plug starter and blew in some fuel and first pull it started!!! I attached the pressure line back to the muffler and drove it around for bit. Made some high and low speed needle adjustments and it run great. I have always been impressed how this little .12 in a 1/10 scaled runs. It is very similar to my 1/8 scale with a .28.

I hope this post helps others with a similar problem!

the littel .12 are impressive. I have the same truck ,and ran the .12 for a while on it till my 3rd rebuild . truck is still running strong with its .12 dynamite on it
