bro these are so awesome!!! do you have abuild thread yet? how did you get the tonka body to stay on? i freaking love this .
those are SPECTACULAR!!!
Hey majin! Thanks for checking 'em out. The
TRX4 rig was a 'simple' attachment setup I used..I incorporated the original body posts so when the Tonka body sits on the chassis it is supported by the rock sliders and the four body mounts just using original body clips..once the clips are removed the whole Tonka rig can be lifted off as a separate piece and the original
TRX4 body re-installed. I learned a good bit from the first Tonka build to be able to make this one easily removable

The only modification to the
TRX4 was removing the front bumper and adding stiffer shocks, then the entire TRX4 will fit inside the Tonka body.
With that said, the most important part of the process for my builds is I take the floors out when dismantling/teardown. This allows me to relocate (raise the floor which lowers the body) the floor to reduce the rig being top heavy and lowering the mass of the vehicle. I also cut it into two pieces (front/rear) so I can have access to everything just by opening the roof of the Tonka. This pic shows where I connected the floor in a new location..the Slash rig has these also seen as 4 black round dots down the side. (Screws with button covers)
If you search YouTube you can find a few of these floating around with the original interior and floor intact on those builds. You can also see just from watching the videos the instability and top heaviness of the Tonka body being perched so high on smaller wheels. Honestly I'm not a big 'gotta be scale' type of person..if it works and it looks appropriate I use it. So needless to say it didn't bother me to take the interior out and move the floor. One of my builds is a 1/18 camper with a 1/10 scale roof rack and it works perfectly and looks correct on that setup. First question I get is "where did you find the roof rack"?

The first rig (Slash) was a much more permanent body to frame attachment..unless I dismantle some of the rig the Tonka body and Slash chassis will always be one unit. Here's some trailer pics during the process before a finished floor was installed..the rear of the trailer is hinged to act as a ramp along with heavy gauge perforated aluminum crafted ramps.
