So i got this used tmaxx bought month ago.. been using free time over past month getting it fixed... no rush since its a second tmaxx. I've had problems with it running and holding a tune at all,, even if I could get it to run. New plug in it with starter battery fully charged. Had front bearing air leak so i got new crankcase with bearings, moved all the internels over to new crankcase. But I'm almost positive this engine was abused with no care. Doubt this guy knew what after run oil was..

Trying to decide whether to do ERP or rebuild.. This would be the first time I used ERP or put in new p/s. I always just went to lhs and bought a new engine.

What should i look for that would otherwise keep me from rebuilding my motor... bad crank or something.

Also whats the story on the carb boot sealing.. Mine has no visible tears or holes but wont seal at the point where it connects to the carb.
I just want this engine to be bulletproof(so to say) when i drop it back it and run it for the first time.

One last thing... the clutch shoes are missing that spring that goes around them.. is that bad... still goes forward though

I've been away from the hobby for a bit, After-run oil, is that the WD40 down the carb and the top of the piston then turn over for about 10 seconds? :S sorry for the dumb Q.
I would say go for the best if its ur 2nd, depending if ur gunna race/bash it or use it for resale after its done, looks like a fun project

by the time you buy what you need to rebuild you could of spent that cash on a brand new engine! not worth trying to rebuild an engine that has been used from some one you dont know.

I want the con-rod and piston if you aren't going to use them. Not for any particular reason, I can't exactly use them, I just want one, and I'm not buying a brand new one.

Since you already have the new block/bearings,I'd try to score a deal on eBay for a piston/sleeve/rod assembly.

BTW - I never use ARO :OMG: But my storage area has heat/ac.

Ditto on the aro, unless it's gonna be a while. I would ERP that sucker and keep your new block with bearings for the new engine after it's been through a gallon. It's not always easy to break in a trx without bearing or rod issues.

I use aro if I know that I won't be running for at least a week. My rc shop is my garage, I have no place to keep my stuff in the house, and the basement is damp all the time, and it eats dehumidifiers like crazy.
