No I dont have a temp gun. I'm starting to thing I got a lemon! I called traxxas and they helped me get it tuned right. I'm at 3& 3/4 turns on the highspeed and 1 & 3/4 on the lowend needle. They basically told me to keep it there. It idles good and so forth. I'll try tightening the slipper and add some spacers to my suspension but I honestly think mine isnt quite up to par

Yeah some of the 3.3's are just complete crap, mine is the same way. I have tuned it til blue in the face and if I dont run it pretty rich it wants to get to 300degrees wich is damaging hot imo. I have to have it alot richer than I would prefer to keep it at 240-250 and its a complete dog off the line. I've tried richer hi and leaner low, the exact opposite of that and happy mediums with both and it either gets way to hot or moves like a snail. I can go from 290degrees to 220 degrees with less than 1/8 of a turn of the needles too.

i have 2.5 maxx that i just got done converting the rear to 3.3 specs also has the 3.3 mill and i can't keep the thing on 2 letalone 4 wheels

try stiffining the rear end but i think yours is really a tuning issue cause my shocks are 4 years old with very little oil and it still picks her up stock gearing tires the whole nine tuning or slipper is definatly your problem

Your LSN could be too lean. I had the exact same problem with both my Picco and 3.3 mills in the Maxx. My LSN was too lean, which also caused it to idle uncontrollably. Just remember the pinch test: pinch line at the carb, if it idles for less than two seconds, richen it up, if it idles more than 6 seconds, lean it out a bit.

My 3.3 before I switched it with the Picco had great power, wheelie'd on demand. I just didn't like it because I thought it ran hot and had a bad air leak, but since I've had the Picco I'd gotten to playing around with the LSN a little more and that was my problem.

I may mess with the needles again but honestly I have about given up on this truck. It handles like crap, you can't turn unless your going 2mph, it has no power because the motor is a lemon, and because of trhis its just no fun to play with. I have spent at least 15 tanks tuning on it to no avail now so its time to make this thing more fun. If its gonna be a big bulky turd I might as well make it a giant bulky turd. I work at a machine shop so I am making an extended chassis for it and upgrade the drive parts to drop a big block in it. I have a .21 a .28 and .26 I'm not sure wich I will use yet. I also have some 7 inch wheels and tires so this thing may make it to 1/7th scale size when I'm all done.

to all the new guys....I hope you are not just turning screws around and not really knowing wht to do because you want to "appear" to know to your friends...I have seen too many people with this mentality and it WILL RUIN YOUR poop!!!!

here is an awsome flowchart to use when tuning.....

this helped many a member here a few years ago...enjoy

Well after running my truck today and listening to everyones advice it was my suspension that was giving me the problems. I added the larger spacers that came with the truck and it worked fine. I also tightened my slipper about 1/8 turn, not sure if that helped or not cause i didnt turn it again. The truck is really running good after about one month of tuning. I'm about 3 3/4 turns on my highspeed and 1 1/2 turns on my lowspeed. Like one member said it kinda gets old wheelie -ing the truck!! The truck rolled a few times in turns due to the stiffer suspension, so I'll probably take the spacers off. Thanks for the help guys.

HEY plaidfish nice post on the chart. That actually the method I use for tuning. I got that chart back when I started it was very helpful.

I've actually printed that flowchart out and put it in my gearbag, thats some seriously good stuff there! nice repost :)

you may want to look in to the rc raven dual rate springs. they really made a big difference in handling on the stock shocks. and also helped with the rear sagging soo much. preloading the springs can make it handle a bit odd when jumping and comming out of turns. using a better spring rate will work out better in the end. I ran 30wt with these springs and it handled great.
now i run the proline powerstrokes. I ran them for the first time this past weekend, and all I can say is WOW

How much do a set of those cost? I'd like to upgrade my suspension to something better. I added the preload spacers and it helped out on pulling wheelies but in a turn the truck wanted to flip. But without them the suspension is WAY too soft. I'm glad I got the tmaxx cause there are so many options on upgrades.

I think I paid like $11 off ebay for them, It helped greatly in the handling dept.

on a stock 3.3 I have used trinity monster HP 25% and traxxas 20%. I will say that the traxxas 20% fuel makes it run cooler. With the Monster HP fuel it ran about 10-20* hotter and didnt feel to have much if any more power

I use 20% traxxas. I dont have a lot of knowledge on other fuels so I stick to what the factory recommends.

I have the same problem ever since I upgraded my suspension to the integy piggyback springs with 35 weight oil. I'm not complaining about wheelies, i like keeping the fronts on the ground, and i have good accel, but I'm trying to figure out why it wont get that "pop" from the begining like i was. Tune is good, but just wont bring it up.

Have you tried adjusting your rear springs to make them stiffer than the front? Also what holes are your shocks mounted on the shock towers with?
