Hello, just got my first TMaxx today in a trade. Don't know anything about them as I mostly fly heli's. Anyway, I looked around to find some answers to my questions, but just thought I might get farther by asking some experts on here.

I know that you are probably tired of every other post being "what tmaxx is this?" but that is what I am here to find out too!

I would like to know what all I have going on and how much it is worth.
I would like to buy a new body for it and body post, and need to know which parts will fit it. I also need a set of skid plates and any thing else I can afford.

Thanks for your help in advance!:D

I'm no expert but I'd say it's a 2.5...don't know what the model # would be though.

Someone has obviously dropped a 3.3 engine in it so there's a good start...although that pipe is probably killing a fair amount of power.

Doing good with RPM a-arms. I'd get RPM skid plates as well.

I'd upgrade the to a new style slipper and spur...the big gear and clutch on it.

Get a 3.3 air filter or motorsaver.

You've already got a 2.5 ghz radio so that's good.

Pull start is good thing.

You're starting out ok though...just bits and pieces to add and change out. How's it run?

It's a classic tmaxx with a 3.3 installed and foc possibly the servo is not there anymore I would pull it all apart clean and seal

Your base model is 4910.

Has a 3.3 on it.
Has a 2.4Ghz TX/RX.
Has FOC(forward only conversion).
Has Traxxas Big Bore shocks.
Has RPM arms(on the rear), bumpers, & shock towers.

Overall looks like a solid rig.

I would recommend getting the 3.3 resonator, airfilter, & RPM wearplates that go over the stock skids.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies!

Yeah, I am bidding on that same resonator and same pink air filter and housing.

It takes some effort to get it to run, but once it starts its a beast. Thing will fly and hard to keep the front on the ground. The guy said it needs to be retuned as he had it set for 95 degree weather. He said he recently rebuilt the carb on it.

As far as the skid plates go, the front is cracked, so the rpm wear plates won't take the place of the skid plates, just help protect? Meaning I need to get a new set of skid plates and then the rpm set, right?

So when ordering parts, engine wise everything for a 3.3 and chassis wise everything for a 4910? Are any of the models interchangable? Like mounting post for a 4907? Also, as far as putting the wheels on, the guy told me that I needed to buy the hex nuts that go on the back of the wheels as the one currently on have been glued. What size hex parts do I need to make it work? Like these?

Lastly, what do you mean when you say clean and seal? Pretty excited about this thing, lot easier to handle than a heli:D

Thanks again for all your help, already learned a lot!

Pretty much your base truck is a 4910, so for direct replacement parts order for it.

Yup those are 14mm hexes that most wheels use.

By sealing it he means with RTV, however the engine has o~rings that are more then up to the task of keeping their area of responsibility sealed just fine, RTV is a mess & a waste of time.
When you put it back together with o~rings use a little bit of dielectric grease or superlube on the o ring so they slide right in.
Where most run into trouble with o~rings is they try to put it together dry & the o~ring rolls & gets pinched, a dab of grease is all it needs to prevent this.

Cool I will order parts for the 4910. I only asked because there are some parts on ebay for the 4907 that start at 99 cents and have no bids yet. Like the body mounting post.

Do they sell some type of rebuild kit for the 3.3 that comes with the o rings you are talking about? I will stay away from the RTV sealant. I normally try to do that anyway.

Thanks

I'd give it a tear down to chassis & give it a good cleaning.. The other owner slacked off in the cleaning dept.

Dont worry about sealing unless you notice leaking around the carb neck head or backplate. And dont use rtv anyways use high temp permatex. i use it on all my engines and if your careful you can keep from making a mess with it. It helps the seals to seal better. But like i stated i wouldnt bother unless its leaking. Other than that i agree with all the above recommendations of RPM a-arms aluminum gpm skidplates and a good cleaning. Later you will probably want to upgrade the chassis to the extended 4907 chassis and 3.3 transmission and braces. Handles way better then the 4910 short chassis. If the tranny doesn't have the forward only conversion i recommend you install it. It will improve your tranny greatly.

Yeah, got it all tuned today and is running perfect! Ordered a new gas tank, body post, wheel hexes, 3.3 filter, tool kit, and got outbid on the resonator. How can I be sure that it has or hasn't had the FOC done to it?

On a side note, my Dad offered me his Thunder Tiger 50 heli for a trade. Carbon fiber blades all futaba gyro and servos, brand new hyper 50 engine. Thinking of trading him and selling the heli and buying a better setup t maxx or something like it. I think I want to stay nitro as I love the way they sound and they burn a LOT less fuel than the heli's do.

Not to start a fight Z but, even the "high Temp Permatex" is RTV.

Your trany already has a FOC in it.
Another way you can tell is by rolling the truck backwards, a FOC'd trany the spur will spin while
rolling it backwards, if it has reverse you will get no spur movement while rolling it forwards or backwards.

Yeah but its just a better brand and high temp than just basic rtv. And why would that start a fight? I'm not one that trys to argue that what i use or do is the only way to be. Hell I'm still interested in everyones opinion and ways of doing things so i can learn better. So no offense taken buddy, i appreciate your input as well.

Yeah, I know that the servo for reverse is gone. I am not sure how you activate reverse on the tx, but like you said doesn't look like its possible to have it.

Also, is it common to push the tx forward to go forward? I swear the rc cars when I was growing up, you pulled the trigger to make it go forward and pushed up to go backwards, just wondering.

You have to have at least 3ch on you trx/rx to activate reverse, your's is a 2ch trx. It sounds like your throttle servo got reversed, check and see if you have a "Menu Tree" diagram, most of the time they're in the battery compartment on the remote. If you can't find it, go to the Traxxas website, you can download all of the exploded views and manuals.

Yeah, the guy gave me the manual for the TX when I bought it. It had the same tree diagram that you linked to. Got it reversed today and seems much better. Must have been a personal preference or something. Thats the main reason I asked, I didn't know if that was the common setup or not. Thanks
