tmaxx engine drop ins...HELP

i have an older tmaxx with the trx.15 engine. its not really old and has good compression and all (3 gallons of fuel ran thought it) but "there's no replacement for displacement" is killing me, my brother and my friend just got a sportmaxx and a maximum MT pro. the sportmaxx instantly puts out 60% more power than the trx.15 that i have and the mt pro has a .16.
I'm only 14 and i wanna stay in competition with them but i dont have a huge pile of money asking to be spent.
what engines can be just about bolted on to an older t-maxx?
 
Some good ideas would be a TRX 2.5, a Sirio .18, an OS .15 CV-RX, or a Fantom .15. Those would all drop right in with only a little work. A few may need the shaft cut which is pretty easy. And you may need to get some parts to convert to slide carb, but they all will ultimately work..
 
I would stay away from the trx2.5 . I have herd alot of bad things about it.

I agree with all of these Recos and especially the bad ass power plant that is the Sirio .18 that's a true drop in motor for the T-maxx. Hell, Sirio call it the "T-Maxx 3.0".

As for the Traxxass.....2.5 being a "bad" engine. I've said plenty of things on this forum myself about what a bitch the Traxxas 2.5 can be to tune. In all honesty, it's a great engine with plenty of power for many people (a stock Nitro Rustler with the 2.5 is pretty balls to the walls fast). Another great thing about Traxxass motors is that they truly back their product and will take care of you if a problem arises. They seem to be hit and miss though and this is my complaint as that of many people here. You seem to either get a great one or a dog and I believe I got a good 2.5 but it's still a bitch to tune. O.S. makes some of the best if not the best and most reliable (overall) engines on the planet but I would go with a OS .18 (assuming you want to get an OS engine of course) if you want some real power and it's probably gonna take some descent modification. THe Sirio .18 seems to be the most kick ass drop in engine for the T-maxx and I'm VERY happy with it in my 4-Tec touring car and the Sirio Piston, Rod and sleeve in my 2.5.

Check out the EPIC .18 Big Bore. It is a direct replacement (just cut the shaft) for the "old" T-Maxx and sports 1.8hp! You can get them at Stormer Hobbies for about $130. You can't beat the price.

OK in the vids I saw a Savage with a Picco 26....supposedly. would this fit w/o mods? Does it really make that much power? I also heard the hyper 8 port will make the maxx SCREAM?
 
Anything bigger than an .18 sized engine requires an upgrade kit or some heavy modifications to make them "drop in".

If you do not have the coin for the .21 conversions that are out there, then stick between the .15 and .18 sized engines.
 
How much cash Am I looking to spend to get the picco 26 in there? what are the advantages of putting a mill like that?
 
The first advantage is huge power and massive speed increase over the small block engines.

The cost...that is dependent on your pocketbook and pain threshold. Most conversion kits run between $100 and $200. Then you have to look into upgrading most of the drive train components from stock in order to handle the increased torque from the engine.

What is your price limit?
 
I am afraid to ask "what is the Minimum price to get this done?" I just decided to keep the maxx I was selling new but My wife wants one so I kept it but it seems a little too easy to break something. I am still getting the Monster gt so I can't spend too much cash but I also don't want a cheesy setup. I definitely want a roll cage with the power it will bring!
 
First the engine costs about $130-$150 depending on where you look. The conversion kits, as previously stated, run between $100 and $200+. The drive train upgrades can be almost as costly (between $100 and $300 depending on brand and gearing). From there the list goes on and on...

Who is the .26 going to go for? You or your wife? If she isn't experienced, you may want to hold off on the engine upgrade until she gets the hang of the "slower" small blocks. This will allow her to learn how to handle the truck...then when she is ready for real power, you can upgrade.
 
THe engine will more than likely be for me and my Monster GT. I hope that it can be interchangeable. I will get back to you on that issue. More than likely I will get a Sirio 18 .
 
The Sirio is a great engine. You might also look into the Fantom .15 and .18 engines. I run a .15 in my T-Maxx and it runs solid and produces plenty of speed and torque.
 
What ABout OS? do they make a decent drop in? If so what size?
 
I haven't had the pleasure of owning an OS engine. In the engine world of RC, OS is one of the kings. They make rock solid engines that perform really well. I will have to let someone who has owned one give you the best selection. Believe me there are quite a few who do or have run OS engines in their T-Maxx.

what about the .18 epic bigbore... it seems un noticed, but www.beatyourtruck.com gave it a great reveiw and its very well priced and direct fit... seems like its right up my alley, but no ones ever heard of it let alone used one..
 
You could always be the first. Then you can write up a review for RCNT...and perhaps gain more users.

The problem with engines that no one has heard of is that no one wants to be the guinea pig and find themselves out a chunk of change for a dud. Of course, those very same people will be singing from the rooftops if the engine rocks.

I'm gonna BE THE GUINEA PIGGY and get the motor... ill work on the reveiw i guess, but i dont have a lot of engine expericence... only worked with a trx.15 and a 2.5 trx and a little on a nitrostar .15 fe...
 
Believe it or not, that is more engine experience than most have. Have it compared to some engines we all know (and hate) is a good thing.
