Hey everyone. I am looking to convert my tmaxx to a buggy (Similar to HPI baja 5b) I plan to build a frame from aluminum angle iron. Do you think an associated 8.0cc engine would be a good choice?
The AE .50 is not that great of an engine. The size of the buggy you are looking to do would be too heavy for the mill and the gear box and diffs also would not handle the power needed to be thrown down to power a rig of that size. All I can say is good luck with your build. Not trying to be a peepee but I honestly think it is a waste of time and money. The only nitro I know of that would even come close to the power needed would be a Picco P3 .28 HIGHLY modded by someone like ERCM.
I was thinking of like a 20 to 22 inch wheelbase and the transmission and differentials off the tmaxx. Havent really thought about wheels and tires yet. Just been rolling some ideas around in my head.
A 20-22 inch wheel base would make a pretty big rig. I would mock something up to get an idea of the overall weight. It all starts to add up quickly and anything over 15lbs (stock Tmaxx weighs 10lbs) would require at least a beefed up transmission and different differentials to have a chance against an engine strong enough to push it.
I’m not trying to discourage you; I’ve just built a few rigs in the past and know what you’re getting into with something that size.
