tmaxx 4909 turning radius ??

My turning radius sudenly started to suck.... seemed like a week servo.... so I replaced it.

Still doesn't seem right.

The following has been checked w the front wheels off the ground.

Centered the steering with the radio steering trim.

If I turn all the way left...... it doesn't seem to steer all that hard....

If I turn all the way right..... same problem.

With the steering held in either direction, if I adjust the trim it gives me a mutch better result.....however this obviously RUINS the steering in the other direction.

Is there a steering servo out there that allows more of a swing?

I used to be able to do a U turn fairly easily...... now it takes WAY more room to manuver...... not sure whats going on.....
 
It sounds like you're servo is weakening......Theres better replacements like metal gear servos for half as much on ebay or other sites like rchobby.com..
 
Do any of the servos haev a longer "throw" in other words more movement?

Pretty sure the 4909 has a servo saver
 
The throw of your servo isn't the problem. Check for a bind in the linkage; pillow balls that are to tight; if you don't have a rx hump pack, get one; loose servo saver; servo's wearing out which is fairly rare; recenter your servo by taking the horn off, setting the trim to neutral and putting the horn back on with the wheels as straight as possible. Check all those things before you pick up a new servo.
 
Fixed it

The problem stemmed from me replacing the steering linkage with metal.

I took it all back apart, lubed everything.. and as I mentioned replaced the servo. Seems fine now.

Buddy just got a revo, hope to do some racing this 4th of july.

Glad you got the problem fixed. I've run into this problem before when replacing front end parts or after a teardown/rebuild for cleaning.

Having any kind of binding in your front end is a real pain in the ass and has a huge effect on handling & performance. Nowadays I always check the steering and arm action for binding before I hook up the shocks or servo arms. You want there to be no resistance and for everything to move freely throughout the range. Up & down for arms (hinge pin binding) and side-side for steering. It should feel almost like you could flap the steering linkage from side-side by shaking your car... but not enough slop where there's wiggle or too much play in the parts. If you do feel resistance, disconnect things one at a time until you've identified where the binding is coming from and adjust as needed.

Similarly with the arms, hold them up (without shocks or wheels attached) and let go. They should drop all the way down with no hesitation.

By doing this you can ensure that your steering servo isn't working extra to move from side-side and that your shocks aren't overcoming binding in your suspension.

Well the side to side movement is smooth with the bell removed.... I wouldnt say its "slapin around" still a bit stiff, but hell its workin anyways.

If I have more trouble I will get a better/stronger servo and RE RE adjust everything.

Again, glad it's working. When you say it's still a bit stiff what do you mean? By "slappin around" I meant the steering linkage should move freely enough that by holding up the parts (car sideways) they should fall easily with gravity.

Gravity wont quite do it. moves easily with 1 finger though. I may end up replacing the servo with a stronger one eventualy.
 
well I took a good hard look at my budies revo..... IT HAS 2 STEERING SERVO'S!!!!! No wonder it can steer at a stand still (and its even labored) my tmaxx is just fine
