I have a tmaxx with a rixgear chassis and a .21OSRZ right now it has the stock traxxes clutch setup on it with just the shoes "shaved" down a bit to get it to hit a little harder. I had taken a break from the RC scene for awhile but am back to buildin/runnin my trucks so i just want to get some opinions on what people would suggest for a clutch setup on this?
I just want to see if there is anymore power in the motor that the clutch setup i am running right now might be holding back.

Shaving down the shoes might actually have robbed you of some power. By shaving the shoes, you do two things: reduce the mass and reduce the surface area for contact (this is dependent on how you shaved them). The mass reduction is good to induce later engagement of the clutch provided the springs are not overly strong (and prevent any engagement). The surface area reduction tends to reduce this advantage by not allowing the clutch to grab immediately.

There are a number of great .21 engine clutch set ups out there. I can speak personally for the Mugen three shoe clutch. It is an all metal set-up and does great on my engines. There are a number of other all metal clutch set ups out there both three and four shoe versions.

If you want to get great grab and thus introduce more of the engine to the tranny earlier, you want heavy clutch shoes with light springs. This will cause the clutch to engage much earlier; however, this means that the engine may not be up to optimal rpms and thus the truck might not exactly zip off the line.

Lots to think about, but remember there are trade offs in every choice you make when fine tuning your RC for performance.

Thanks...and i never really thought about the shaving having a negative effect but you are right,i could see how that might happen. Thanks for the info i'll check out the Mugen clutch at my LHS.

i run a rad rc 4 shoe clutch on all my maxxes and it totaly rules. i havent burnt one up yet even on my big block .26 and my 4 stroke. theey only cost about 12 bucks too. :hehe:
