I have recently bought a tmaxx 2.5 off ebay it has 3.3 motor tranny, and the driveshafts. which think is from the 4909 because its the hexagon brake. However I dont think it has the revo spec differentials. it has 2 crews. Bummer... but iam looking at the diffs on ebay, and i was thinking about finishing the conversion by getting the revo spec diffs, extended chassis, and wheels. and i think that is it... but will my 3.3 tranny which think that its from the 4909 because it hax hex brake, drop in the 4908 newer chassis?? do i needlonger shafts? I need as much help as I can get thanks

Does the truck have reverse? If it does then that tranny is from a 4909. The newer 4908 model doesn't have reverse. but the cases are the same so it should go right on the extended chassis.

Yes it does have reverse, and I ordered the 5195 foc kit for it also, I don't want reverse...more power! But yea I hope it will fit right on when I get the extended chassis, I have even thought about this, what's the point in getting the extended chassis? It will be newer, and cooler. But if I buy the extended chassis ill have to get the extended body I think, and probly the 4908 wheels because I'd bet my 2.5 wheels don't look right on the extended... And thanks for the help please reply

You'll be able to make your existing body work. But it won't fit quite right. You'll need a longer front driveshaft. Bigger tires are nice for some situations, but the 2.5 tires work fine.

Thanks again for replying. ok so here's what I have as of now, I bought my tmaxx off ebay, and its a great running truck verrry fast, I only drove it a couple tanks of fuel. It started out life as a 2.5, it has the 3.3 motor and 4909 tranny you say. And it has got the bigger driveshafts they are the big ones with blue boots and blue booted turnbuckles. So I would say its all from 3.3. The only thing I noticed about the truck is obviously the fact its the 2.5 chassis, and wheels body. Everything else appears to be 3.3, but I looked closer at the differentials, they have 2 phillips screws in them, and I'm pretty sure they are NOT 3.3 but I'd like to know, kind of upseting. Sorry for all the words, but I'm trying to figure out what I have and what else I need to do to make my tmaxx handle the 3.3 motor. And soon finish the 2.5 to 3.3 changeover. Thanks Alooot.

No they aren't 3.3 diffs. 3.3 diffs have 4 screws and a rubber seal between the ring gear and the diff cups and bigger sealed bearings.

Yea I figured they weren't, I guess I should look for some on ebay, okay here's my list of parts I think I'm gonna need to do the complete conversion. Correct me if I'm wrong, or need to add stuff.. 4908 chassis, 4908 wheels, and I imagine the longer front shaft for it to fit the exended chassis. And of course the revo spec diffs, and I will try to get the steering linkage already on the chassis, the one with the bearings. And I think that's it....much help appreciated. Thanks guys, and would any of you know how much it all might cost? It shouldn't be too much considering I have the 3.3 motor tranny and shafts, turnbuckles. Thanks again guys!

i have done the extended chassis conversion and i feel it is worth it, you will need the upgraded brakes, steering bell crank, throttle linkage, centre shafts, extended chassis braces with centre skidplate and if your upgrading from the 2.5 then the diffs as well, i done it all minus the body for £50 but I'm unsure what that will be in dollars

Throttle linkage? I thought that u just would flip the servo around?

While you are into it I would seriously look into RPM a arms, aluminum bulkheads and aluminum shocks. Made a world of difference to mine.

i replaced everything while upgrading to the extended chassis and it made the whole process very easy, rpm a arms and the tru track i feel are well worth it, rpm bulkhead braces and bumpers, rpm towers, metal cvd drive safts, integy shocks, alluminium bulkheads, spent a packet on the bad boy and i feel it looks awesome

Awesome guys, I wish I had the cash yall did. Haha yea I'm gona post some pictures of my truck, and I'm definately getting the cvds, rpm arms maybe shocks if I get cash.I'm just thinking this outloud, what's the point in gettin the extended chassis, its more money, I like my 2.5 chassis fine, its a good looking truck it fools a lot of people because it has 2.5 body wheels and chassis but it has 3.3 motor tranny and other nik nacks.other than getting 3.3 steering linkage sealed diffs, center cv's and a wheelie bar, rpm arms, I don't see where I could go wrong...? Ya know. And does anyone know what the best glow plug I can use for my 3.3? Something not to expensive? I'm also looking at getting the in line fuel filters well that's that.. Reply back guys thanks!

Well I decided to just leave my 2.5 chassis alone, and the wheels... I don't see much difference there.and from what I have seen IMO the 2.5 has better handling anyway less chance of flipping. Bc I'm gonna be mad if my truck flips its brand new with the 3.3 motor tranny and shafts.anyways here's what I'm looking at, just gona leave it be and get the inline fuel filters maybe they'll help later in the motors life. The 4907 diffs, 4907 steering linkage, wheelie bar, and it shouldn't give me any problems, I think it be pretty sweet the looks will be 2.5 but performance will be BADASS. So I guess thatl do it, I still need to know what good price plug is recomended for the 3.3? And does anyone know if my new 4907 diffs will bolt right on the 2.5, I'm a bit worried wether or not I'm gonna have to get 4907 bulkheads. Shouldn't it fit right in? Thanks guys.!

I run an O.S. Engines LC4 medium glow plug in my 3.3 and it screams with 20% nitro plus they last a lot longer than the Traxxas plugs been running the same plug since April and i know I've put at least 10 tanks through it and it's still goin strong. There's no such thing as a cheap glow plug you're gonna pay at least 6 bucks a piece for them. Here's a good rule of thumb every time you go to the hobby shop just plan on picking up at least 1 if not 2 new glow plugs before you know you'll have 6 or 8 of them stashed away and then you'll be stocked up on them for a while. Yes those diffs will bolt in just fine.

Thanks ALOTT guys! Very helpful, I'm gona see how well it holds up I shouldn't have any problems whatsoever. But I will try and invest in some rpm a arms, and maybe some big bore shocks. If yall have any more ideas to make my truck stronger, more durable. Let me know! Thanks so much again, I will post pics tonight. Peace

I thought about the Traxxas big bores but they were way to expensive for me. Check out this link www.teambluestar.com. They are way cheaper than the Traxxas big bores and the threaded bodies allow for more precise adjustments than the plastic spacers that you get with the Traxxas shocks not to mention they just look killer on the truck!

Man they are beast! Way better than the traxxas brand, I'm gona definately look into those when I get new ones. I spent a wadd of money today on the new steering linkages off the 4907 and the 2070 servo, revo spec diffs, wheelie bar, big fuel filters, and some other nik naks. That stuff won't cheap... But I'm about done with my conversion truck. I'm pretty much only lacking the rpm arms and those blue stars shocks. It will be one nasty conversion truck in about a week. The only thing left of the truck being 2.5 is the chassis. I'm leaving it I like the shorter one better its less weight. So far has anyone heard of any problems with the newer tmaxxes? Like the revo spec diffs? Or driveline anything. I think I'm stacked up on heavy duty parts so shouldn't have any problems right? Thanks again guys

Those shocks gave me nothing but problems. They leak and are made of soft material. They're also longer then trx shocks, so running them on the highest setting on the a-arms pushes pillow balls apart, which ruins shafts. Found that out the hard way.:) I've seen 3 sets of them on different Maxx's, and they all had problems with leaking. As always, you get what you pay for. Big bores are great. I have a pair that are 8 years old on my pede. And they haven't been babied a bit.
