If you want multi use tires you will have to comprimise. You will not get good traction and/or wear on all surfaces with any given tread pattern. Generally you'll get good dirt traction but bad hard surface wear with pins and bad traction and good hard surface wear with a tread pattern. With pins, the larger the pins the looser surface they are designed for and the smaller they are the faster they wear. I have already worn out a set of buggy tires in about two days of racing due to using very small and soft pin tires but that is what I wanted for the traction I needed to get.
