I have been hunting around on TowerHobbies.Com for a good set of on-road tires for my HPI. I know they sell hundreds of diffrent kinds, and I don't want to get ahold of a bad set because I didnt kno0w which kind to get. To those of you here who race on-road, 1/10 scales, What kind of tires do you perfer? I was thinking of going chrome or titanium (not plastic- I think it looks completely ass-tastic) with some high speed hard rubber tires. Everything I find on TowerHobbies is either plastic or the tires look... odd. What do you all perfer?

Honestly Tweak, those of us who do race nitro on-roads (myself included) only use foams. The electric races who do outdoor events have to use rubber tires because of ROAR regulations. They use different shore ratings but all are slicks.

So would it be a generally good idea to go with a firm tire of a lil softer? i am assuming foam tires are kinda soft... All I know is the tires that came stock are CRAP, and I need to do something before I try to run it again

If you are goinng to race, use foams, unless the rules specify otherwise.

I use the HPI slicks for one of the local tracks and parking lot stuff. I have used foams for racing, but I am still experimenting with hardnesses.

Venom came out with a series of rims/rubber tires that look cool and have a pretty decent tread. You can get different traction ratings.

are these tires going on an electric or nitro car? for electric i run, take off RP30's and CS27's slicks with medium inserts. my choice of hardness compounds is dependent on the track temperature.

I used slicks (I dont race, just a parking lot basher) and they seemed to last the longest for me. I had some Hpi ones and also some duratrash ones, and suprisingly the duratrash ones held up just as well, and we resonably cheaper.

I use strictly foams for my on-road (serpent 710). Foams come in varying compounds ... 30 shore being the soft compund all the way up to 50's. The track temperature as well as surface type and traction will dictate the sore rating. In general 37 or 40 shore tires are a good place to start for a base line. It can go deeper into detail. Here is something that I posted a while back but I'm sure it will help you make a better decision ...

I found a very helpful article that covered both Rubber tires and Foams. At least the pro's and con's can be compared. Lots of information here but the basics of "how to choose" will be addressed.
