Hey Guys,

I thought I would be able to choose the right set of tires for my TC4... wrong. SO many choices it blew my mind. What I need to do is ask you experts out there to give me some advice on what tire to choose. I will be running on asphalt exclusively... in my driveway to be exact. Maybe in a parking lot, but that is going to be few and far between. I would like to go rubber, and not foam... only because I do not have a tire truer, and I have heard foam will wear quickly. Also for just bashing around, I have heard the pre-mounted tires are best, because glueing can be an issue. I was looking at tread tires as apposed to slicks as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can buy mounted and pre-trued foam tires.

You can get pre-mounted rubber as well. Look on e-bay or locally.
Take-off or Sorex are both good brands. For all around bashing and racing a good place to start will be 28-30 on the compound for rubber

I have been looking at the Venom tires, and HPI as well. Is there a standard size I should be looking for? ie. 24 or 26mm? There is so many tires out there it is mind numbing. I will check out the brands you mentioned.

Hey Rob, I told the guy at the LHS about the premounted foams and he told me that on asphault I would wear them out in one run, and he warned me that that could get expensive. Of course I don't know first hand.

I have practice, 2 heats and a main race on mine so far and they are fine.

Well that is good info to know. He said that they would start to chunk and would be no good after a few runs. Thanks for the info.

Hey Rob,

What kind of asphalt were you running on? Prepared or unprepared? My driveway is unsealed asphalt, that should see a coat of sealer this fall. Would that have any affect on what type of tire I should go for? Sorry for so many questions, but I have everything else ordered for this car except tires and a body. LOL

It was a parking lot for a strip mall. It looks to have been sealed within the last 2 years. Ed would probably know since his shop is there. They also blow off any debris and spray soda all over the track before racing.

This is my 2nd season on the same foam set. They are just getting broken in. I guess I must Sunday drive like an old lady :D

Its 2-3 years from being sealed and is not that smooth. Its not the best race surface but its high grip once blown and sprayed.

IMO get a good set of 26mm pre-mount 30 rubber. You wont go wrong. Its about the best all around setup you will find.

Thanks for the info FastEd and Rob... Sorry for so many questions. Everything else was so easy to pick out... then I got to the tires and saw all 30 pages of them at the LHS and he told me that it would really depend on what surface I was going to run on. I told him asphalt and he asked me if it was sealed or unsealed, rough or smooth, asked what type of asphalt it was. I had no clue. He was cool about it an all he wasn't being rude or anything, it was just way more info than I had or had even thought about. So I will get out there and search for pre-mounted rubber in 26mm. When you say 30 I am assuming you mean the hardness rating, but where does it say that in the tire description? At least on tower I am not seeing it. I will keep researching.... afterall that is usually the best way to learn. Thanks for all the help guys.
