So you're about to start a new RC build or rebuild or project and want to know how to keep it interesting and get people involved? Here are just a few tips to use!

  • Take lots of pictures! The better the quality pictures the better. Also be sure to give plenty of descriptions of what each picture is or what you are trying to show within your RC build.

  • Make your updates as detailed as possible and describe what you're doing and/or your possible future plans for your RC.

  • If you can, add videos as well.

  • Do product reviews while you are doing your build. Get a new upgrade piece or new tool for your RC? Write up a little review with pics/videos - everyone loves a detailed product review.

  • If you become a RCTalk Supporting Member you can link your build thread in your signature! So where ever you post in the forum your RC build thread will be visible to others instantly!

  • Check out and post in others RC build threads! That's a good way to get others to notice you and will go to yours as well.

  • When viewing other RC build threads, don't just use the "Like" feature, but also leave a comment.

  • Speaking of replying... be sure to reply to all comments in your build thread! Even if it's a simple post like, "great build following along!" Like, quote it and give a simple thank you, this goes a long way in getting people to frequent your thread.

  • Try to keep your updates frequent!

  • Ask questions and for feedback on what you are doing, keep conversations civil and personable!

  • Don't get upset if nobody comments! There are a lot of threads on the site and believe it or not people are watching your thread! Just keep the updates coming and the rest will fall into place!

And most importantly, have fun with the thread! After all it is your build thread. Your build should be fun for you to do and keeping the thread up should be as well. Not only are you sharing your RC build for others to see on RCTalk, but it's also makes a great journal to look back on in the future to refer to or just look thru what you have done!

Great advice, which reminds me I must spend more time looking at what others are building.
 
Back to the shed in the heat wave, to make a ‘flywheel adapter coupling’ the plan is to use the BLDC motor as a starter motor, but ill keep a groove in the flywheel for a belt and remote starter, first face off a 63.5mm actually 2 1/2” dia bar of mild steel. It’s easier to get imperial dimensioned metal stock and oddly cheaper too, (still expensive though) .

Turn the bar down to final diameter of 62mm. Then drill and tap a weird thread to match the engine M8 x 1.0 I’ve never had an engine with a metric threaded shaft. I even had to buy the tap set for the purpose, Ironically I bought a quality set and I’ll probably not use them again. Duh!

Next remove loads of material to make the 12mm dia shaft to fit the coupling

After parting off and flipping the piece around i cut a recess in the back with a boring tool and then had fun cutting a ‘Vee’ for the back up starting method.

Next to cut a recess in the engine half of the coupling to accommodate the engine shaft nut which i intend to lock the flywheel on with, “fingers crossed “

The combined mass of the slim flywheel and the steel coupling is significant, so much so that i might swap the coupling for an aluminium one.

I have the aluminium profile parts lined up to make the generator cradle or is it a skid?
