Ok I am really getting frustrated with three shoe clutch. None of the shoes are touching the clutch nut. I bought the three shoe flywheel for a non-pull start and the same springs and shoes that come standard on a factory team kit. I really want to start it up but now I am afraid I might do more harm than good. Please shoot some advise anyone!!!

I was also thinking ...Do I maybe need a different clutch nut or am I way off? Only reason I say this is because there is a GT Clutch nut.:read:

jon - the gt clutch nut is for a single speed only - it isnt long enough for the 2 speed housing on the NTC3. i am a lil confused at the problem - are u saying that the inside of the shoes, when closed, dont touch the nut? so that when u start it, u are worried that the clutch will automatically engage? lemmi know id this is right?

Sorry Nitroaddict I have the ntc3 clutch nutand it doesn't touch at all. But Ncnitro told me that it was ok and that it is not supposed to make contact with it.IT only expands with more speed. I was told that the 3 shoe set up gives you more punch. Bith Ncnitro and Kwong told me this. I really do appreciate you helping me.If there is anything else you can say to help me I will be more than happy to listen.

what they said is absolutely correct - but to be honest - i just use the copper springs on my two shoe, and still pop off the line faster than anyone with a triple. i have also shaved my shoes down to about 80%.

Nitroaddict...How do you recommend I trim the shoes? Mine are stock form

Nitroaddict what mill are you using? Do you have a ntc3?

jon - i am running an OS MAX .15CV-R w/ the 10A slide carb in my NTC3. I race it - and it is very competitive. Remember - being able to drive well is 99.999% of going fast. hopups dont mean crap if u still can't get around the track for 10 laps within a second or two of each other.
------
Dont worry about trimming the shoes now. get everything up and running first. if u think that the car is bogging down at the start - and everyone racing u is beating u off the line - then trim them. this is more for racing only, as u reduce the life of the shoes dramatically.
------
If u decide to trim them - shave off no more than 1/8th of an inch at a time, and cut them at an angle, with the longer end being the end that touches the CB.

Thanks nitroaddict I will try it out first . I am still in the process of breaking the 12RSS engine. I will start her out today. If the shoes give me a problem I will let you know. Do you have any suggestions on how I do it? Also the clutch nut is really hard to tighten do you have any suggestions?

wrap a shop rag around the flywheel, and then grip it with a set of good channel locks. then use a quality rachet to tighten the nut. this will allow u tons of leverage, and not damage your flywheel.

yeas but I have a standard shaft and I need to use a driver that is a deep socket.

jon - the NTC3 uses an engine with a SG shaft, or short shaft. if u have a standard shaft - then u have to cut it, which u have already done, as i read in an earlier post. after that - u then place the flywheel w/ the bras collet inside onto the crankshaft of the engine. U secure the flywheel with the included SG flywheel nut. this nut is shaped like a regular nut at one end, only with notches for the moustrap clutch springs, on the other end, it tapers into a smooth shaft onto which u place the bearingd for the clutch bell. a long socket works best for securing the flywheel nut to the crakshaft, however if u have no long sockets, than a regular one will work. just insert it onto the nut, and tap it a bit to secure it properly. the socket wrench wont fit all the way into the socket now, but it will fit deep enough so that u can secure the flywheel.

Why would I use the SG Clutch nut if I cut it. The manual says that A standard shaft uses the Standard clutch nut. I tried to use the sg nut to see what would happen and it doesn't even fit, It is too big.!

Hey nitroaddict..does having a 3 shoe set up affect the 2 speed ?Someone told me to also adjust the LSN and the HSN to compensate as it might cause my unit to run a little lean.

below is a picture of the clutch nut u should be using, is this the one u have?

to append your last - a clutch will not affect the lean/rich micture of an engine.

Yeah that is the one I Am using. Thanks Nitro. I am playing it safe now cuz I had problems with me experimenting on my RTR 3 and I was paying cash so fast to repair it that it saw more bench time than run time! Thanks Nitroaddict
