I recently modified my Savage with some new toys. I installed the HPI three shoe clutch, the HPI dual disk brake, and performed the 4 spider gear mod on my diffs. Today was the first time running the truck with all three mods in place.
New truck...whole new ballgame.
I think the three shoe clutch gave me a little quicker hook up on the take offs. This is a good thing.
I know the brakes work a hell of a lot better than the stock brake set up. I took my first jump off a three foot table top, got maybe a foot of extra air between the truck and the ground, grabbed some brakes and made it 95% of the way through a front flip. Left a nice divot in the track where the nose skid dug in.
The diffs...world of difference. I actually had to work to keep the back end of the truck behind the front end. The loose dusty track condition didn't help much, but even so...my Savage rarely used to kick out the way it was on the track today.
I ran a few tanks with my JumboMaxx tires on. The truck was a little sluggish to get up to speed (I'll blame the dying batteries in the truck but think some of it might also be due to the 60K oil I used in the diffs) but it moved and made dust clouds as it slid through turns. Switched up to some Maxx Mashers and the thing started to fly a little better. The steering was sluggish (damn batteries).
All in all...the three mods are well worth it. Want to stop on a dime, dual disk brakes will do that...as long as the truck isn't going 20mph on a loose dust covered track. Want some quick hook up on the drive train, three shoe clutch will do that. Want some solid diffs with improved performance, the spider mod definitely gives that (I'm still marveling at those huge JumboMaxx tires kicking out on the drop of the hammer).
