I have a Savage25, and I can't stand this motor. It runs too hot.. and tuning it isn't hard.. but it seems like I need to tune every tank. I get it dialed (right temps, right smoke, right sound) and then the next tank it runs like crap.

I did the new era tank mod and it does seem to run a lot smoother, but it still floats around a good tune.

I was thinking about getting a new engine. Then it dawned on me that I should take the sportwerks .26 out of my mayhem and run it in the Savage and get a new buggy motor.. but I don't want a pullstart on the buggy.. and I don't want to lug around a bump box.

So I think I am going to keep the .26 in the buggy.

My question is this...

Would the OS RG put out more power than the hpi .25??
Should I get another Mach?? (I run one in the MGT)
I know that the picco is a popular motor for any MT, but I don't really want to put that kindof money in it right now.

You are the first person I have heard say that motor is hard to tune, Every HPI engine I have owned was a breeze to tune

It isn't that it is hard to tune... it just won't hold a tune.

I read it wrong..not the first time LOL Have you checked for a leak in the fuel lines, and tank? I had a problem keeping a tune on a NitroQuake and it was a pin hole in the tank, just an idea.

might want to check for an airleak in the carb area or backplate. some time back, the savages had a run of bad or loose back plates that caused an airleak. get some RTV sealant and apply some. see if that helps the engine hold a tune.

Is the O.S. RG a more powerful engine over the HPI .25?

Anyone know from experience and not just numbers??

I will check that. Thanks for the tip.

Is this the only area known for leaking??

Normally when you have an air leak on the engine/carb it will cause the engine to run hot because the air leak will lean the mix. You said your temps were good so I don't think thats it. Did you check the fuel lines and tank?

Well.. that is.. sometimes it is good. I might run 2 tanks at or around 270 then the 3rd tank will be 310.

It seems to float around. That is why I did the new era tank mod.

It has been better.. but I still think I might try a new engine and keep the .25 as a backup.

Why not throw your Mach in the savy to see what its like having a more powerful motor in it other than the 25? If you like it then get you an upgrade mill and bolt the mach back in your mayhem. Honestly..the savy is a much funner machine with a beefier motor in it.

Did you break in your mill or did someone else? Sounds like whoever might have done something a lil wrong. I too thought about swapping the mill in my savage but the S-25 has been wayyy to good to me. I rarely have to tune it, its temps are perfect, and it runs like a champ.. Sorry to hear about your bad luck with yours.

For a mill Id check out the Sh.28 Seems like a good mill for the buck.

I broke the motor in myself. It used to run great.. then it would lean half tank really bad. I did the tank mod. Now it is a floater.

I might have missed it, but how much fuel has been run through the mill?
