Think I Have A Leak Somewhere?

No, it looks like this: http://www.rainbird.com/parts/images/thumbnails/B10603_lg.jpg?id=1898

The system is a Hunter system (at least the controller is) but I've also found Toro and Rainbird heads. It's almost like the installer took leftover parts and installed them in my yard! It was here when we bought the house and I have no documentation on anything. It's been trial and error to find the valve boxes and electrical junction areas.

well most companys install what is best. We use hunter timers with hunter rotors and rainbird sparys. So dont worry about having a mixxed sprinkler system. I would say that I only have seen that part once in a big commercial job. It looks like for a quick fix you could unscrew that and ad a pvc screw cap. That would be the quick fix.

Well, I went to Lowe's and found a check valve, which is what I think the original part is, but configured to accept a "key" to blow the system out in the winter. I figure, when it comes time for me to blow the system, I'll rig something to attach to the check valve to allow the air in.

We shall see.

Finally got around to fixing it today. Replaced the defective valve with a new check valve I picked up from Lowe's for $10.00.

All is well now! No leaks and with the water on and system off, water meter didn't move a tick!

Now just need to figure out why I have a dead zone, but at least I'm not spewing gallons of water anymore!

Thanks Doug for the assist, I appreciate it!

On the hook for the bill, or at least a percentage of it. I have to complete some documentation stating the reasons and the fix, so hopefully they'll forgive a portion of it.

Thats a good thing! I can't imagine the bill for that much h2o.

In our town its $60 each quarter minium, but I've yet to pay more. I even filled up one of those blow up pools last summer and didn't have to pay more.

Did it freeze over when night fell?

How much is that bill MW? We are going to make donations to help him out, or his water will be shut off. :loser:

Ummmm, maybe it floated away?!?!?!

No, I have one of the zones that will not activate, meaning I probably have a cut electrical connection or that valve is bad. Trick is finding the valves because I have no documentation or schematics on where they buried them (because there are no valve boxes in the yard and the ones I know of in the front are in the flower beds).

Bill is $600.00, but no donations are warranted (not that I thought you were serious!) Nah, I made my bed, I'll sleep in it! Water company is actually beng very cool about the whole deal, so we won't be shut off......yet!

good luck finding the boxes. We use a tool like this to find vulve boxes. If you have a john deer by you they might have one that you could borrow.
