Does everyone with a nitro car use infrared thermometers, because the nitro car came before the infrared thermometer? How was your engine temp monitored before this? Or did we just see a lot of burnt out engines? Just a thought.:\
 
Spit works in a pinch. Spit on the head...if it sizzles immediately...you're engine is too hot ;-)
 
I bought one from my LHS...$29.99, I use it more for fun than tuning...but it is nice to have for tuning an engine....But the spit method does work .
 
I've learned to loosen up a bit when it comes to monitoring temps. Not that I recommend ignoring them.:) But if I have good smoke, the engine runs well and there hasn't been an abrupt change in performance, I let 'er rip.
