The unbelievable happened...FINALLY!

Today was the first day I have finally had enough time to finally put my Savage back together since after leaving New York.

Which means for the first time I got to play with the new radio (JR XS3), all my alum. hop-ups, and best yet my Hyper 8port!!! I must say that thing was a bitch and a half to start.

I used the a hair dryer to heat it up and loosened the plug ever so slightly, after about 5mins I started. Skymaxx is right, the settings are very rich. EXTREMELY rich for me, so rich that no matter if i gave it full throttle or mid throttle it didn't go a single bit faster. Almost to the point of flooding itself. It finally started hauling some ass then 10seconds later it ran outta gas.

Ohh well, one tank today and I'll try to get another 2-3 more tanks in it tomorrow.

No, just what's in the gallery.

I do have a question though now that I am thinking of it. How close should the spur gear and clutch bell be together. I never noticed it when I was mounting the engine, but mine are like almost touching. So close you really can't tell if they are or not, other then when you look at the spur gear to see if its running on anything (ie. wear marks or anything) there's nothing, likes it's 3ft apart. Any ideas?

It is so nice to see the quick reply back in action...

Believe you me WoodiE that thing will run like a pig until you are done with breaking it in. They recommend a few more tanks at that rich setting than I believe are necessary. I would say to you, start dialing it in on the fourth tank...but take it slow.

When you finally have it set the way you want it, you will be in love. That thing will run like a freaking rocket. Did you, by chance, change the gearing? If not, that will be your next hop up. The stock gearing just doesn't use all the extra high end rpms that the 8 port brings at WOT. You will see and hear what I mean when you get it dialed in.

Have fun tomorrow.

What?
You read the threads in the forum? You never would have figured it out on your own.

Isn't this forum great .

For the mesh, set it the same way you set the mesh on any of your other nitros. You do remember how to do that, don't you? ;)

Skymaxx,

No no no no, thats not what I mean. I think the mesh is perfect. Where I'm talking about is the SIDE of the spur gear and clutch bell.

The best I have seen yet, if I must say so myself ;)

Don't sweat that. If the spur isn't rubbing the clutch bell, you are fine. Heck even if it rubs it just a smidge you should be fine...because the clutch bell will eventually wear the spur gear enough that it no longer touches.

Just kidding.

You should be able to see some daylight between the flat edge of the spur and the flat surface of the clutch bell. If they are so close that they are touching, the mesh would start to concern me. Are the two toothed surfaces of the gears properly aligned? If so, then my first paragraph will probably apply and I wouldn't sweat it. If they are misaligned, then check your engine mounting.

My 8-port with stock clutch bell gives me about 1/16th of an inch of clearance between the two flat surfaces of the two gears.

Ok after shinning some light on them I did notice there JUST slightly missing each other. 1/16th of a inch? I dont think so, maybe even a lil less then that, but they are not touching.

Sounds good to me. Have a blast finishing up the break in. The follow on tanks of fuel will go just as quickly, only the engine won't be nearly so difficult to start.

Ohh man, once I finally got it started the first time, the other times was VERY VERY easy to start.

I hate it when I'm right :D

Dude, you are gonna love that engine. Trust me on that. Christian might have the Outlaw for his, but the 8-port is plenty of beast for any Savage.
