OK, sorry first of all to be the downer of a forum for anything goes. Besides, I assure ya it will probably be derailed with in the first 3 replies if any. :p:
I'm speaking about this big oil slick that will probably be one of the biggest environmental disasters ever!
What are they going to do about the deep sea gusher we have?
I know they are trying everything they have to keep the oil away from the shores but hell, the oil is still coming up from the bottom of the ocean. Not to mention major storms are going to brew making what is practically impossible to keep under control. I was watching some of the news reports and already fishermen and clam harvesters are filing a law suit against BP. What the hell? They are going to drain the money from these bastards before they figure out how to put a big cork on an estimated "billions" of gallons being pushed up to the surface of the ocean.
I can see it now. I am sure PETA will file a law suit against BP too. They'll try to sue for pain and suffering of the animals. Not a big fan of PETA but I am sure they aren't going to go down there and start scrubbing some birds and stuff, if they do, hats off to them.

BTW, sorry if I'm bumming anyone out. Don't mean to but it's been something that's been on my mind. :\

Well part of the problem is that there is supposed to be a valve on the line to keep it from gushing in just such an event. BP decided to cheap out on us, and the way I understand it, is that they used a cheapo rather than a quality one.

It gets worse too, I'm hearing now that another rig has apparently overturned as well.

Expect the already high price of shrimp to skyrocket soon. I imagine BP will be taking this out on us by jacking oil prices up too.

HAHAHA, clam harvesters.. mainly down here we have oister farmers. and yea. it sucks. everyone t work around here is freaking out.

OMG! Man that really blows... what's bad is that what you just posted hasn't hit the big headline news folks yet. Major $#!t is going to hit the fan for sure.

A friend of mine just called earlier today from New Awleeeeens. He and the wife are there for a wedding, and he said the winds were really kicking up prior to the storm that's brewing. They're expecting the tar balls to be hitting the shore soon.

BOHICA.....

It's bad enough that this will undoubtedly be one of if not the biggest environmental disasters ever, but you KNOW the oil companies are going to stick it to us (see Rolexs pic) at the pumps blaming a shortage now. IMO, ALL of the costs involved in this disaster need to be paid by BP, and NOT the taxpayers. I am so sick of of the big oil companies using any excuse they can to jack us for more cash at the pumps, while reaping astronomical profits, and will now burden us with the bill for this clean up as well.

If you're wondering what BOHICA means in my previous post, it's military jargon for......

Bend Over Here It Comes Again. The sign explains it better than anything.

Indeed I was assuming that it had something to do with the stick figure position LMAO!

I frequent a site where alot of news gets out that mainstream NEVER talks about. Mainstream media is controlled media. if you want real news, you look elsewhere.

Who wants to bet that the quality version of the valve was farily expensive due to decent working conditions, QC checks, etc. And the one they cheaped out on was probably made in some out sourced third world poophole by people in terrible working conditions, with no QC. So, I pose this question too the higher ups at BP. How much did you save on that valve? Hopefully it was enough to fight all lawsuits, and the clean up. But that ecosystem will take generations to recover, and an entire industry could be bankrupted over it. I despise big oil as much as I hate wall street investment bankers.

where did you read that it was a subpar bop? BP is one of the tightest companies around when it comes to safety. I have worked on rigs for dozens of operators and BP is the only operator where i had to spend a day in their own safety class before i could even get put on the flight manifest. Accidents happen, its just a part of life. It sucks that the rig had a blowout, it sucks that people lost their lives, it sucks that more people will be affected. I think BP is going above and beyond in their efforts to control and break up this spill. They responded immediately and are dumping tons of cash into the recovery effort.

People always jump on the "i hate oil" bandwagon but they are sure quick to use the millions of products that oil is used for. Big oil also supports thousands of companies and their employee's.

If you hate big oil, start walking wherever you want to go and stop using all the products that use oil in the manufacturing process.

Name one other industry that supports more of America.

FYI, the government makes more on that oil than any company could ever dream of.

EDIT: The bop was made by Cameron which is an outstanding company.

The plant is 5 minutes from my house so I have several friends that work there, the question is...How long are they supposed to use a bop before it's time to replace it? From what I was told it was pretty old.

I don't know if there is a specific time set to replace a bop. I do know that they are tested extensively. I'm not sure how often but it is always tested before you start a well. I think i read somewhere that the rig tested it 10 days prior to the incident.

First of all screw the oil, birds, and fish what about the loss of life ? As already said BP don't skimp. Do you know what the pressure is at 5,000 foot below sea level ? A LOT, I can promise you that. You can engineer something but some engineering fails. Not matter what it all goes back to that statement ''Crap happens''

I personally don't think we will see a rise in gas prices to do this problem. The oil being spilled is just a drop in the bucket as to what is out there and already in the strategic reserves around the U.S. As for the 2nd rig it was being tow to a shipyard for repair it was not in the process of drilling for oil.

When is comes to the media sheep I would believe nothing I hear and half of what I see. The media is part of the problem when things like this happen by giving 2nd hand information and are usually clueless about what really is taking place.

I don't know what BP and Transocean's SOP for pressure testing a BOP is but I am sure their is a MAWP test in place for the BOP.

As for the fisherman and shrimpers there like everyone else with their hand out wanting a buck. Which is the mind set of most in the U.S. today.
