OK For the people who dont know I'm a newbie to nitro and I'm one of those guys who bought the EBAY truck the FS rasing hummer so i found you guys and found out that it was a "ok" truck so i got rid off it the same day, i know I want a great truck or atleast something id be happy with right now this will be my 1st nitro truck and I can get either the t-maxx 2.5R with extras for 200.00 used or the t-maxx 3.3 used for 300.00 no extras just the starter as i said I'm new and just want to be happy with my truck.
1st off is the prices right for these type of trucks
2nd what the speed and size diff of the two trucks
3rd is there anything i should look for when buying a used model?

i would say starting off with a used one might be harder trying to get it tuned right but i might be wrong...i have a 2.5 and my buddy has a 3.3, the 3.3 has way more low end power than the 2.5, but the 2.5 is great until u load it up with a bunch of aluminum parts then it loses a lot of power. i think if i were gonna buy one of the two u listed, id go with teh 3.3 just for the fact that once u start upgrading parts cuz u keep breaking them the 3.3 will pull the extra weight as where the 2.5 u would end up wanting to put a 3.3 in it.

thanks

its a 2.5r and would i be able to put the 3.3 in the same truck?

yeah as far as i have been told and read its a direct swap...i guess if u wanted to do the swap and the 2.5 already had a bunch of upgrades then that would be the way to go, cuz u ARE gonna break stuff on the maxx like crazy.

thx for the info

so is that just the tmaxx trucks that break like that or is that normal for this hobby?
is the tmaxx fast at least?

the main differences:
the axle carriers are revo spec on the 3.3 (stronger with better bearings)
the tranny and slipper setup is again revo spec on 3.3
the driveshafts in the 3.3 has revo ones
the dust bootie things are annoying are on the 3.3
the tires are different on the 3.3
motors of course
the exhaust is better on the 3.3
and you have the opti shift reverse
hump pack on 3.3

hope this helps

thought he wanted to know about a 2.5R and the 3.3
NOT the 2.5 and the 3.3...
the 2.5R/3.3 is the same just diff. motors
the 2.5 is just the classic t-maxx with the old suspension....only way i know about it is i just got done converting mine over to a 3.3 axle carries and arms with CVDs (all RPM and the CVDs are the Traxxas ones)...the tranny on the 2.5R/3.3 is the same but diff from the 2.5
I'm working on doing the latest 3.3 tranny and running the close ratio 2-speed kit that Traxxas has out.
...the main diff between the 2.5 and 2.5R is your running gear (suspension and tranny), the motors: 2.5R has the ports honed out some (port and polished) and a Power Tune head, and the conrod in the 2.5R is a little better. I'm tossing a 2.5R in my 2.5 Maxx bc a buddy went BB in his and has a 2.5R new in the box and he's letting it go for 60 bux and it's never been started....the 2.5R should run a little harder than a 2.5. The 2.5R/3.3 are the same thing just diff motors. And have a beefier steering servo saver, it is part of the post and no longer on the servo itself. Hope this helps you out.
That's what i've learned along the way. ;)

2.5 has no optidrive...thought the 2.5R/3.3 have same trans though.

If it's gray it's the opti and if it's black it's older
lol

the only difference between the tmaxx 2.5r and the tmaxx 3.3 is the engine. everything else is the same. the 3.3 is a direct drop in engine for a tmaxx 2.5r.
my first maxx was a 2.5r
the tmaxx 2.5 on the other hand is different and would take abunch of driveline upgrades to handle a 3.3.

I love my 3.3. It runs great, haven't really needed to mess with the tuning much since the original breaking in ( but I don't race it and do daily running with it) and tho' I'm not familiar with all the little details, it feels very sound when I get it up to speed and when I'm roughing with it.

my vote goes to the 3.3
