Sup fellas...

I've been super busy lately and have had little time to break in my new Savy, so I've been running it 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there, hell I even brought it to work to run on my lunch hour...

Anyway, after breaking in three HPI T-15 based small blocks (two Rs4s and one MT2) I thought I was pretty good at this. My two touring cars and the MT2 will idle all day, keep nice temps, etc.

Meanwhile, the Savy is making me think E-Maxx! :hammer:

I know it's not completely broken in yet, I'm just wrapping up my third tank where you drive in slow circles, but the temps keep creeping on me and the idle won't stabilize. Is this characteristic of the 25 in these things?

Once I finish break in and drop a new glow plug in (OS A5 was recommended) will I finally be able to keep this thing running and stabilize the idle and temps?

I guess I'm not looking so much for tips or advice (but they are welcomed) but more or less encouragement.

Thanks for reading and feel free to post some ideas on the subject...

i have had the same problems as u. Does it cut off all the time when u try to make it idle? Mine does.

Yah man. I had the same problem with mine too. I ended up running real rich at first and bumping the idle screw a bit to make idle it higher (to keep it going in my case). Keep goin' tho, the truck is worth all the stuff you're going through! And hey, if you end up thinking real hard about an E-Maxx, I'll be glad to make an offer on the Savage! ;)

Mine doesn't idle good, runs lean all the time and is kinda fretting me. I am finished with breakin and it still doesn't run right.

Wow

I broke in my Savage following the breakin in the little grey book. It is running great. I added my own exhaust and can't keep the front wheels on the ground. Maybe I am just lucky. I did reset the mixtures a few times when I felt there wasn't enough white smoke out the back.

when it's broke in and tuned right it will be a beast.
i think the savage almost all ways has problems starting off mine did any way but once it is set up right it is a good truck.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I've heard nothing but great things about the Savy and how tough it is, just not how tough it is to break in! Ha! :D

I'm about to start on tank four, so wish me luck...

Update...

Just finished tank four. The temps are stabilizing now in the 220 range and I've leaned out the HSN about a turn. Great smoke at WOT and it is getting more low end punch the more I use it. Still on the original glow plug BTW...

I am still having it idle too high though. I can bring the idle down some, but once I give i some throttle it will die. If I leave the idle where it stays running the wheels will free spin when I pick the Savy up off the ground. More break in before I can lower the idle or what?

Also, in tuning the LSN on the 15 small block you can "seat" the needle and then count the turns. I've never had a slide carb before and when I try to seat the needle to count the number of turns to reset the LSN I notice that I can turn the screw all day and it will eventually start moving the slide in the carb. So how do I know the needle is set to "zero" or "seated" so I can count the number of turns?

Thanks everyone...

My SS with a S-25 runs awesome! Break in on any big block is a pain in the ass, but once it is done and you get a few more tanks through it it will really come to life.

To seat the low speed needle on a slide carb you have to hold the slide in the closed position, make sure it stays closed while you seat the needle. You shouldnt really have to mess with the low speed needle during break in though.

Thanks NC...

I figure I've got another couple of tanks left...

Even though my T-15 was "broken in" after four tanks it didn't really come to life until I had about 10 through it...

Thanks for the top on the LSN. Didn't know how to seat it. I was going to try and richen the LSN just a hair to see if it would help with the idle (I know, not the best way to chase it, but I figured it would be safe (rich) and not have too high of an idle during break in...

Hey.
Sorry to butt in but,... about how far in/out does the LSN sit when fully closed? I've been putting it at the little ridge inside the carb as "fully closed", is this wrong...?
Thanks
