i went to a 56 tooth spur and no wheelies? carbs tuned and the shocks in the rear have the spacers in the springs to stiffen them up. what else can i do or what am i doing wrong? thanks!!

you got the wrong spur gear. you need the biggest spur gear that you can buy. like a 72 tooth. also a smaller clutch bell would help. i reccomend a 16 tooth. you have tuned it for top speed with that small of a spur gear. try and go wot and see how fast it goes.

ok well if the tiny spur gear is spinning really fast the bigger gear isn't going as fast. but in order to stop it, it takes much more force. if you have a smaller spur, the gear can get going much faster but it has less force behind it. i hope this helps. but you are right. the bigger spur gear=more torque.

And you are welcome.

If you are familiar with 1:1 cars, the spur gear that you have would be like a 2.70:1 rear diff gear ratio. To be pulling wheelies like you want, you would need to go to a 72 tooth spur gear, which would be like a 4.11:1 rearend gear ratio. Hope this helps. The bigger the spur gear the more power for bottom end like wheelies, but less top speed. The more top speed you get, the more wheelie pulling bottom end you have to sacrifice.

Stock 3.3 spur has 54 teeth so yes you are moving in the right direction.

I don't see why you would be having problems. My 3.3 can pull wheelies with a 54 tooth spur and 24 tooth bell.

yes keep in mind that the 3.3 and 2.5 trucks use spurs that are quite different, but the same affect with gearing with more or less teeth.

A 3.3 Maxx should pull wheelies all day long without even trying, your tune is off bad or if you have the stock pipe it might be stopped up.

Have you tuned for performance? My Old 2.5 maxx would wheelie pretty good. It wheelied when I broke it in. Not on purpose...

Check what Smaxxin says as a pipe with something blocking it can really giev you problems. How is your slipper set up? Tight or loose?

Too loose and it doesn't move till a certai RPM. Too tight and you can destroy your tranny..

Always check the source with simple troubleshooting.

Is your glow plug in good condition? Do you have the right one? If not replace as appropriate. If so:
  1. To make power you need to burn more fuel in less time. (Bad Fuel?)
  2. To do that you need more air coming in. (Dirty or Worn Air Filter?)
  3. To do that you need more exhaust going out. (Clogged or Damaged Pipe?)
  4. You need to get that power to the ground. (Bad Trans/Gears, Wheel Bearings Worn, etc. Check your drivetrain. What tires, etc...)

Maybe someone else can elaborate on this...but I'm just trying to throw my ideas out there without actually seeing it in person.

That's a nice little piece of advice, IMHO! Rolex, I think you could probably add it to your sticky of info :)

Hey thanks, well there are a lot more factors that could come into play (fuel lines, air leaks, etc...) but I'm still learning and I can't properly elaborate on those points. Maybe someone else could fill in the details.

first of all let me thank y'all for all the help! i really appreciate it! well i guess i could rebuild the carb put new fuel lines, see if the exhaust is clogged, put in a new plug, clean the air filter and get new fuel. I'm an automotive technician so this is pretty basic as far as the concept goes but I'm still learning as far as the nitro rc world is concerned. and i suppose i dont have to change my gears if you can wheelie with the stock ones. although more torque never hurt anybody!! thanks again guys!
