I been working on my Maxx hybrid it has been a night mare to say the least. I ran less then 3 tanks and the 3.3 died today. I heard the metal all tear apart, i heard it and knew i was done for the day. I took the motor out no gear issues so i knew the motor was done. It was locked up, i tore it part and all the metal parts where torn up. So yea that moment when you know/hear the sound of death of a nitro motor SUCKS.

Nah, doesn't suck, just gives you a good excuse to go bigger. :D

Man, i agree but the drive train needs to be done. I thought i was going to lose the axles first . I can not put to much money in to this. I have a rtr sc10gt new in box . I have that to brake in lol, i really want the maxx right. I am going with the 2.5 and using my parts i saved. Sure it will not be a beast but i know i will be safe. I LIKE SAFE. LOL

Do you already have the 2.5? If not, I'd suggest taking $80 and buying an HPI Nitrostar 3.0 on eBay. It'll run circles around a TRX .15, they are very easy to tune and very durable/reliable.

It had 3.3 but i have a tune pipe i saved, carb, and the pull start with one way bearing. i have a motor mount that all will work with this..http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-4910-Tr...Motor-4-tec-Rustler-Slayer-REVO-/140854475701, i just need the a new clutch. I got the motor out and i was happy the truck was ok and there was no gear issue. I started to tear in to the motor and it was the worst i ever seen in my life. I think wait i KNOW it was messed up before i got it. I did not even run 3 full tanks, and it was a pain to start, I wanted to stick with the 2.5 as i have the parts and it will be easy on the drive train. I want to say its .15 maxx so i rather not push the truck to hard. I really do not want to put a lot of money in to it. I think a new motor/clutch and use what i have should be the best option. I am only using this truck in a big open field here an there. I have my sc10gt that i will try to get it as close as i can to race ready. To bad i will race against my self no one around has one.

I would either bang a fresh 2.5 in or look at the 2.5 novarossi snook man suggested , great engine for the price
plus that nitrostar aint gonna fit without mods .you could also look at a losi 3.4 they are supposed to be much better than the 3.3 which aint hard and require only a small grind off the block to fit

It's a standard side exhaust small block, direct bolt-in where any other .12-.18 pull start engine fits. They're available with rotary or slide carbs, long threaded or SG crankshafts. They also have a smaller cooling head than the OS .18 TZ or CV-R, which sometimes creates clearance issues with the OS motors.

I have a 2.5 with blue cooling head(aftermarket one(traxxas one) with aftermarket flywheel and ez start only has about three quarts threw er be willing to sell for $80 if you'd be interested?

i thought this where only rotary, can i use my stock tune pipe and motor mount ? what about a clutch for it ?I can get a motor and clutch for less then 80.00 shipped. would this be less then 80.00? I really want to not put that much in to the truck , i have spent to much at this point.

you talked with my friend he sent me the pics, i rather for that price stick with a new in box motor. thanks man

that motor will not fit in a maxx engine mount plus the 2.5 is a rear exhaust and a slide carb
a new 2.5 without a carb can be had very cheaply on ebay ,drop it in a drive away

that is the idea, i found a ebay seller that has a motor that he sells all the time. Lucky me to save money on my end he has the motor with out the parts i was able to save. So i just add a flywheel and new clutch and i am back driving. I really think the 2.5 is my easiest way to get back going. I can be back at it for 78 for a new motor with just a used carb that is in great shape. With the money saved i can go with a few more needed things like a new steering servo, battery receiver box and a new shock tower and all new rear rpm arms . I found a seller that has this stuff and buying it all i will save a lot on shipping and i will get a few doll hairs off.:first_place:

So you're telling me the 2.5 mount does not accept other standard .12-.18 (.19) engines?

As I said, the nitrostar can be had with a rotary carb or slide carb, and with either style crankshaft. The rear exhaust is a no-go, though.

Was only a suggestion for a durable, potent and inexpensive mill. OP can take it or leave it, just trying to offer the facts. Makes no difference to me what he chooses.

Not having a go at ya mate but you've said your self you dont do trx gear...
I'm sure the nitro star is a good mill but for an inexperienced player getting that engine to fit would not be a 10 minute affair
The 2.5 aint a bad mill for an rtr I feel the reason that get such a bad rap is due to pilot error and poor tuning.they re a cheap engine so you aint gonna lose too much sleep if it expires before the 10 gallon mark

I think for what i want to do and the money i want to spend the 2.5 is a great motor that i agree i can just use it and if anything i can get another. A lot of guys get there maxx to the point its a beast but i really do not want to do anything more then just have fun in the next few weeks and up coming months ahead. I know with a fresh start i will be able to take care of the motor the right way and i found a great price on a new 2.5 .

The Dynamite .19 can be had for the maxx for $109.00 free shipping off of ebay. And it will run away from a 3.3 all day long. That's about the most bang for the buck maxx replacement engine that can be had for the maxx truck for the best price. And it is a direct bolt in for any maxx truck. View attachment 13327

Then i would need a clutch and flywheel set and that will put me over my max i will put in to the maxx before i light it on fire and add more fuel to it.. Thanks though lol

Your factory traxxas flywheel and clutch will fit the Dynamite engine bro! Everything from your stock 3.3 or a 2.5 transfers over to the Dynamite Mach 2 engine that's why its a direct replacement my friend.:D

I could not save those things, i would have to much money in to my truck. I think i posted a few times what i was able to save. The fly wheel is all tore up and the clutch is shot. This might be hands down the worst brake down i have ever had and worst buy. I got screwed over, no lie i would of been better off buying some criagslist abused nitro rc that did not start. I am close to ordering a new motor along with the parts i was able to save with a few other upgrades to the truck to help with things like shock position and i can ditch the AA battery for a receiver hump pack. I am under 110.00 shipped, i have a few other things for that 110.00 that i did not just tell you. I have a flywheel tool and some washers and a new one way bearing and a traxxas tool kit and a new air filter for a 2.5 motor. I would like to try the Dynamite but my budget will not call for it at this time.

Oh yah I thought you were able to save the flywheel and clutch. I have never had a flywheel tear up before wow!
Same here, i tend to think there was some major issues before i got it lol. I did not even get a chance to tune the motor . The one way bearing was slipping as well so it was no good.
