This strike is a big burden on the city. I can understand the gripes of the workers but at the same time, I see it as "bullying" the city and taking it out on the people.
I spent 2 hrs in traffic this morning bringing sl0eg1n and his gf to work in the city. With the 4 person HOV law in effect, I had to ask my dad to be the fourth passenger. It's nice to see that in adversity and need, the NYC citizens still can come together and help each other out.
We saw countless people opening their car doors to strangers to carpool and people sharing taxis just to get into the city. In the midst of high tensions, people were smiling and helping each other out. It's an encouraging site.
Now with the illegal strike in effect, the parent union of the transit workers has disassociated itself from the local 100 (the union that called for the walk out). There is a million dollar/day fine on the union and transit workers are being docked 2 days of pay for every day they are out. The strong arming of "take it or leave it" attitude of the union is discouraging. Am I happy with the strike, no. Am I sympathetic for the workers, yes. I just think the leaders of the union are feeling a power trip and overstepping their boundaries.
Let's see where it takes us. Maybe the possible jail time will make them rethink their actions. Just as their parent union has stated, there are other avenues to take. This was just going down the wrong way on a oneway street.
