No matter where, or how I do it, my temp files will NOT delete. It shows them as deleting, or going to the recycle bin, but when I look again, they are still there.
I've been trying to correct a 'refresh' problem on this site, and I'm sure the reason I can't correct it is because of some temp files I can't remove.
I've never run into this before. Anyone have some advise?

What ways are you deleting them, Going into the temp files or through the tool bar in your browser?

Your temp files consist of two flavors...internet content and cookies. The system will not delete cookies unless you specifically tell it to do so. Depending on your browser, there are two things you must click. For IE, click the tools menu and select options. Then click delete temporary files. After that click delete offline content. You should get a dialog box asking about deleting cookies. Click the yes or okay button when offered.

If you are running a different browser, look into the help file for deleting both content and cookies.

I've done it through the browser tool bar, I've done it through Windows Explorer, and I've done it through My Computer.
I've done it about 20 or 30 times in the last 2 weeks, and the same files keep showing up when I check.

SkyMaxx, I've done EXACTLY that, MANY times. Nothing.
The refresh problem is also on this site with Firefox, but IE is what I use normally.

So you have done it by going through the CP in your start up menu? Never had that problem. Just curiuos, are you having problems with your Clock? I had a bad mother board and founf out the battery contacts that hold the little lithium battery to be the cause. I like to use the CP and then interet options then manually open the folder to highlight all an then delete. I do that for both Objects and files.

I tried it again through the CP. That's the same tabbed window you get in the internet Tools menu, or by right clicking the icon and going to Properties.

Hmmm...that's a stumper. If the toolbar doesn't do it, I usually run a find for Temp and delete the temp folders and files. But I have never had the problem you describe.

Have you run a search on your machine for "Temporary" or "Temp" and then deleted the directory and files? If so, I am beyond my depth for telling you how else to get rid of them...the two methods mentioned should have done the trick.

Yeah that is the one.

Not too sure what your problem. I would have to be in front of it. Did you try to manually delete the files and thean refresh that page? Delete Both Files and cookies and even offline content

There are no suggestions here that I haven't tried. This started the day our old server went down, and when it came back up, a week of posting was missing. Eventually the posts were restored, but I was on this site several times during that problem. Other members are also having the same Refresh problem I'm having. Even WoodiE, on the day this started, thought it was a Temp file or cookie that was causing it.
I'm sure it is, but if I can't delete them, I can't correct the problem.
I've run ALL my virus scans and ad programs, and nothing that I've done can correct it.
This isn't the XP, but it's 98SE. Not that it matters, but just some extra info for one of the major computer wizards that might stumble across this.

Rolex:

When you go to CP and delete cookies, do you also ask it to delete the "History"? I do both once a week. Screws me up for a day as I have to re-input all my passwords on my favorite websites, but cleans out a lot of garbage.

I do a complete clean up 2 or 3 times a week. Well, at least I used to be able to do it. I delete cookies, temp files and history.
Everytime I do it, even now, I have to re-enter my password, so that tells me it's been done. However, the next time I look in the Temporary Internet folder through Windows explorer, ALL the same temp files are still in there. The cookies and history folders have deleted.

Is this a business PC you are talking about or a home PC? If it is a business. they might not let you delete that info. I know I tries.Looked at porn by acciedent..really and wanted to erase all the history. No permission to do that so I was screwed.
