Other than cutting out the windows in my body which needle can i adjust to take the temps down and what: leaner or richer???I finished the break in with my new 5309 revo using the traxxas method exactly how they told me too and now within like 5 mins of bashing not to hard yet the temps are already climbing to the 250-270 range and thats in just 5 mins of bashing!!!Is it too rich???I was thinking that it is but i wanted to richen it a lil more to have a lil more smoke coming out but the temps are just too high to tune right now??? What do i do so bear with me because I'm still a partial noob but i have learned a lot in my like 5 months of driving!!!:(

Does it continue to get hotter if you keep running it, or do you shut it down at that point? That temp range if what most Traxxas engines prefer.

Well i kept running one time and it got higher close to 300 F so i shut her down but I'm check again tomorrow if it does it again????wat do i do

Richen the HSN slightly. If it doesn't keep it at or below 280, then richen the LSN a hair.
You'll need to tweak the HSN regularly to compensate for the ambient temp and humidity.

When you richen a needle you get more fuel, more oil, more cool.

I've got a Revo 5309 with a 3.3 in it. That thing is a slow PoS if I keep the temps under @ 280 degrees. If I tune it to hit the 280-290 mark....it runs like a raped ape with a nice trail of smoke. Any richer or leaner....it runs like a turd. lol

It will take a serious beating though....

the new right???and yea I've been runninng in the 260-275 range so i should richen it more or lean it to get like 285...I've got a good trail of smoke coming from the exhaust...later ill post a vid of it adn u guys can tell me wat u thinkof it

Leaner = Higher Temps
Richer = Lower Temps

The TRX 3.3 (from what I've read) is pretty temperamental. Most of them seem to like to run hot, but there are a few that run in the 240-260 range and make great power. So don't ever tune to what works for someone else. Just tune it slowly and see what YOUR engine does. Mine like 285-295....yours may not.

Lean it out slowly and see what it does. Once you get it to the "running like a raped ape" stage.....richen it just a tad and go play. If your not racing it....running it rich will keep you and your Revo Happy. lol If you're racing it....well do what ya need to do to win ;-)

as of right now I'm not racing but maybe in the near future!!so i gotta it out today for about an hour or so and was hittin jumps and she was doing wheelies in forward and reverse, haha..i got it tuned good and then my receiver batt dies and i get no throttle or brake response!!!boo..so its all charged and I'm gonna go run it now!!!maybe ill post a vid tonight...

I was having the same temps, thought there was a problem with my settings. glad some one runs this hot also. With ceramic f/r bearings 270-290 great smoke trail. temp here was about 85 that day. put my truck up because it thought it was running too hot!! idles a little rough sometimes though. any ideas?

One more for running it hot. My 3.3 ran 280F for 4 gallons, still had perfect compression when the bearings died. Change the engine bearings every two gallons if you want it to last.

my friends 3.3 likes to run at 300 all day long and it has been running that temp for the entire summer and that has been like i thing 4.5-5 gallons and it still runs great. . no issues. . .so +1 for TRX engines running hot

ya i know that now so thanx guys but i just finished putting in the rpm a-arms on the front, i have the back but I'm goin out now so i dont have time.. i also changed the pushrods from the silver stocks to the red ones i had.. there a little shorter but they look great!!!

If they are a little shorter put the spacers in that way they are the same length that way it doesn't screw up your ride height

ya it didnt at all cause i like how it sits with them!!! They look cool also

ya, i like how they are annod red!!! they just complete the truck!!1 lol

I run my 2.5r with no body just the roll cage. I usually run it between 250-270 with outside temps in the 80's. I've always been scared to run it any hotter. Is it safe to tune the engine to these temps. with no body on?

If you only run it with out a body then yea its safe to tune like that. . .but the thing is ur engine may like the temps its running at. . .TRX Engines are very temperamental when it comes to temps, I've seen some run like a raped ape at 250 and others at 300 it just all depends on ur engine, if you have a good trail of smoke with the tune you have and ur not blowing glow plugs then id say ur ok. Prime example my picco .26 loves to be around 235 240 and its a monster off the line, so all engines are different as far as there optimum running temperature.
