hi,
i am using 20% nitro. The outside temperature is around 95 and the humidity is 55%. I was using a combo of 17/47. the temp was around 280 to 290. Then i replaced the the cb and spur 15t/49t) . The temp was 340f.
Then i richin the high speed needle and even the low speed needle, but still the temp would'nt come down. Even the transmission is not shifting to the second gear.could this be the problem.
what are the poosible reasons?
i checked for the following and found no problem.
1. Brakes
2. glow plug
3. clutch
4. Slipper clutch and the springs.
i am struugling to get it right for almost a week now.
can you please help.

Sounds like you are extremly over-geared, and your shift point is WAY out. There is a strong chance that it's hitting second gear right away. Try using a 2.5mm allen wrench and adjusting your shift point clockwise (to make it shift later). Adjust 1/4 of a turn at a time, until you get in the area... Adjust no more than a total of about 2.5 turns.

If it still does not shift, turn it back and go the other way no more than 1.5 turns.

But with 17/47 it use to shift . Does the temp rise because of not shifting to second gear

I would also try your slipper clutch again......turn it in all the way then back it off a little less than a half turn. If the slipper is slipping then it will not turn he tranny enough to shift,it will just rev high.

It could, because the motor is winding out.. Here's how I calculate how to adjust my transmissions' shift point:

First step is to find out the stock setting for the shift point, which is typically 1 1/2 turns past the top of the set screw being flush with the top of the threads (see page 23 of the Savage X manual).

Once you have your setting to stock, and assuming stock gearing is 15/49, you can then calculate your ratio, and your adjustment.

Start by dividing your spur that you're running now by the bell, 17/47, which yields a ratio of 2.65.

Next, divide your spur by your clutch bell; 15/49 yields a ratio of 3.27.

Now, here's the magic. Multiply your first ratio (2.65) by the transmissions' current (stock) adjustment (1.5); 3.975.

Now, divide the 3.975 by your new ratio (3.26); you get 1.22, which means you need to loosen your shift screw about 1/4th of a turn.

This little trick also applies to the three-speed transmission upgrade.

It may require tweaking your shift point from there, but that should get your truck shift point in the neighborhood.

will try and let you know . Thanks heart break.

:whhooo:Wow, HeartBreak. That's some serious calculating.

When I agreed to take this job, WoodiE promised me there would be no math or heavy lifting.

Just about makes your ears smoke, don't it?

I figured that one out after I emailed HPI's tech support for the 3 speed adjustments based on different gear ratios.

Of course, your final adjustment will depend largely on engine tune, but that should get you in the ballpark of where your adjustment should be.
