Hey I am wondering what is the best way to maintain your Tmaxx? I know when i finish i running i dont leave any fuel in the tank and i make sure i whipe everything down. But that is really not maintaining the motor. I am wondering what do you guys do to get longer life out of your motors?

Pretty simple stuff actually...first and most important ALWAYS put the piston down to the bottom of the stroke when you shut it off. Even if you are just shutting it off for 5 minutes. My rule of thumb is if it will be not running long enough for the motor to cool....drop the piston down by rotating the fly wheel. How I do it is run the flywheel up to the tight spot then back the other way to the tight spot then back to the middle between the tight spots. That should get you pretty close to the bottom. You can also pull the glow plug and look at the piston and when it is at it's lowest point mark the flywheel for future reference.
The next thing is after-run oil. This is for at the end of the day. You pull off the air filter and put a few drops into the carb and turn the motor over several times to pull the oil into the engine. I then pull out the glow plug and put a couple drops on the piston and rotate the engine over a few more times. Put the glow plug and the air filter back. That is what I do for engine maintenance on a daily basis.

Alright, That sound real easy :) But quick question can i use 3 in1 instead of after run oil becuse i dont have no after run oil. Is 3 in 1 basically the samething as after run oil? And i never blown a glow-plug yet in this engine so i am thinking i am doing a good job keeping it up :)

Excellent advice! This is what I do, and like Friken said, it is very important to keep the piston at bdc when not in use, this will help prolong the life of your engine.

Go buy the right stuff for the job, a bottle of after run oil will last a long time.

Alright, What is the best way to move the piston to make sure it is BDC?

I also agree with NC...after-run is not very expensive and one bottle last me about a year. I just go ahead and use the real stuff too. Very cheap insurance especially if you live in a humid area like I normally do.

Yeah i am going to just get a bottle of after run oil. Because i rather keep my engine running good then having to replace parts on it..

I do what FrickenJoey stated up above. Mark the flywheel. Since it can be quite difficult to see when the piston is actually BDC I generally remove the entire head and visualize it that way. That's being sort of anal though to be onest. In all reality as long as the piston is somewhere around the bottom 15% of stroke (I'm just pulling a number out of my ass here) then you'll be fine and the sleeve will not cool tight around the piston. Anyways, once you get the piston in position just take a sharpie or something and make a mark on the flywheel at it's highest point. Then whenever you finish cleanup you simply rotate your engine so that mark is pointed straight up.

Amen to that man...also it helps prolong the life of the one way bearing too...nasty gummy fuel can make them slip if you run a bit too rich and let it sit.

Yeah i am going to make it on the flywheel with like a sharpie so i can know and it will make things easier when i go to clean up :)

ima newbie here,, i bought what looks like to be panther step pin tires for my tmaxx, i need to find some rims for them, please help, the guy at rc shop said i needed a different type of rim bc of way tire was made... any help would be great

I'm using WD40 for after run maintenance as the traxxas manual says. Is this bad?
