Ok now that I have replaced my carb and now it wont shift into second gear I have tried leaning out the high speed scew I have tried adjusting the second srew in the gear box department but still notting, and to be frank I am PISS!! I dont want to mess with the carb settings to much as i will have more problems on my hands, as of now it's running fine but no second gear somebody please help!!

kick em when there down.....

You may need to richen the high up a little and lean the low. I find I get alot sooner shifts when I adjust them both a little at a time. What happens when you pick up the truck and give it full throttle, dose it shift then? And what was your temp.

Is your new carb opening up all the way? IMO adjustments should be one needle at a time and each at "1hour" or 1/12 of a turn. Have you returned the nedles back to factory settings and see if it shifts off the ground?

I haven't tried picking it up yet, and as for the temp i'm not sure. my temp gauge is kaaput...need to get a new one but I'm stuck on this small Island and there are no major shops here so i have to do online shopping and takes forever to get here...yeh anyway thats my sad boring story but i will give your tips a try.

Jons got a good point to, check to make shure the carb is opening all the way, you may need to rotate it to achive full throttle again. If anything you can do the spit test to check the temp, spit on your finger, apply to the head. If it evaporated quick and sizzles and boils a little your running around then 220-230, if it sits there a minute your running cool and can lean it out a little. But if it skips and sizzles off quick, then your runing to lean. Hope this helps a little. Keep us informed.

Hey there, tried out your tips but still no luck!! what could it be?? I have reverse gear... think somebody stold my second gear LOL. Picked up the truck & gave It full trottle but It just kept on sreaming out in first gear until It couldn't take anymore and cuts out (sound so painful). spit on the engine but it doesn't evaporate so quickly, so I tried to lean It out as much as possible but the engine bugs out and stall @ full trottle and one spell when @ idle it kept on jumping forward so I richen the low speed screw it's sorta running ok but still second gear....do you think maybe I need to strip down the gear box???

Make sure you didn't turn the wrong screw in the gearbox. You may have loosened up the clutch, instead of setting the shift point.

I think I have the right screw according to the manual, It's the second screw within the rotation of the gears. would a worn engine give you no second gear??

When you're stuck in first, are you getting good RPMs ?
If so, it's probably not a tuning issue, but a trans adjustment. Look at the adjustment screw as a clock. It's at 12 noon. It's probably set somewhere in the late afternoon or early evening, so back up the clock ONE HOUR at a time. Go to 11. That's earlier than noon. Doesn't shift yet? set the clock back another hour to an earlier time. 10 AM.
If you need it to shift later, set it to a later hour.
Do this carefully, and don't go too far. If that screw backs out, you'll need to open the trans.

I've been trying till I was blue In the face and finally today I manage to get It. but, bearing in mind that I had to strip the gear box down, I had to Re-tightening the 2-speed hub onto the 2spd shaft..... on the shaft you have this flat spot which has to be line up with 2-speed hub it's a bit complex to explain but relatively easy to do, put It back together and at first still notting so I lean out the low speed needle and richen the high speed until I got It to change so all in all it has been a good day today, still think I can make It just that bit more quicker though I will have a go tommorrow. keep your eyes tune just incase my second gear decides to vanish again:LoL: here is the link to re-tightening the 2-speed hub http://www.traxxas.com/support/index.php?action=artikel&cat=35&id=160 if it is any help to anybody out there, not like you can't go on Traxxas site and get It yourself but guy's gave me a helping hand so I thought I would give a little something back!!!

it is alot more simple than that, ou just need to retune and tune i a little towards the lean side, instead of the rich

if the engine runs too rich it will not have enough power or torque to push it into second

I would follow the link that maddogmax07 has given. If you are experiencing the same problem and have gone through the tuning of the engine and STILL have no change, then I would proceed to the link and see where you stand after.

Let us know.

this usually means on a maxx that you are running to rich, i right now an like 96% sure this is the reason it is not working, from experience i know it has happened to 3 maxxes i know of!

ehh, another common t-maxx problem i haven't had after two 2.5's and my newest 3.3

knock on wood.
