i have a 4910 with the stock tranny in it just upgraded to a steel spur gear bc my plastic one bit the dust. My tranny makes some wierd noises sometimes tho after youve tried to put it in reverse (sometimes goes into sometimes doesn't and sometimes doesn't wanna come outa reverse) then it will make a whinning noise. pulled tranny apart all gears look fine not a messed up tooth or anything. But I'm thinking about gettin a new tranny forward only bc i read all to many times reverse is a headache in the longrun b4 i get a new tranny I'm gonna try putting a forward only kit in my current tranny to see if that fixes it and makes the noise go away but if not I'm going to get a new tranny should i just spend a little more money and get the 4910 tranny and put my forward only kit in it or could i get a forward only tranny from an earlier t maxx 3.3 for cheaper and have no problems dropping in. but I'm figureing the outputs may be a diff size than what was made for the t maxx 2.5 just trying to see wht the best road would be

Spend the $9 on the FOC for the black 2.5 trans. It makes it a much better all around trans and better performance. Get rid of that steel spur unless you do want to be replacing gears inside the trans as well. Get you a torque control slipper upgrade kit from traxxas for that trans and it converts your slipper clutch to the current 3 shoe system like on the newer 3.3's.

I would look on ebay for a newer tranny out of a new maxx,....They come with a forward only and can be had for cheap. You will have to change a couple things though.
You could also look for a new 4910 trans, as they are cheap too.

If i get the slipper upgrade that automatically takes the steel gear out right, i looked at them a while back but i havnt in a while. I'm deff planning on getting the forward only i dont mind going to turn a truck around when its against something to get some more performace and reliability I'm not that lazy lol

@ 2revo1maxx what all would i have to change bc i would like to just upgrade to the newer tranny this t maxx is basically a running project

You would need the trans with a brake kit, which is still cheap, plus a 3.3 chassis and 3.3 center drive shafts. The shafts will connect to your 4910 diffs, but "revo spec" diffs can be had cheap as well.

b4 pricing it all as of right now ill prob just go with a new 4910 tranny and foc and a slipper upgrade seems like it would be easier and cheaper, then sell my steel spur on ebay or something

I would just install the foc in the tranny you have and install 12 friction pegs in the current slipper setup. With no chipped/broken gears, foc and good tranny bearings the transmission and slipper will hold up decent to most big block engines with the slipper set properly. If you feel you must, the torque control slipper is a decent upgrade but be aware the only size spur gear availiable to fit it correctly is the 72T spur that comes with the kit.

after looking at the upgrade and all I'm just going to stay with the 4910 tranny i have keep my spur which i have all 12 slipper pegs in and upgrade to the foc and if it doesn't fix the noise I'm gonna run it til it breaks and then replace the tranny
