Hi all, This is my first post so be nice haha,

i currently have a 2.5 Maxx, I've got it running really well at the moment but only with the shell off,

my onboard temp gauge says I'm running around 260 degrees which is fine but when i put the shell on it goes well over 300 degrees. if i lower the high speed needle then the truck wont shift to second gear, i have adjusted the shift point to make it shift earlier and i also have a aftermarket head.

could one of you RC genuises please give me some advice on how i can get my truck to run around 250-60 with the shell on and still get it to shift.

Thanks in advance

Chris

no i dont would that make alot of difference do you think? like i say the truck will run at around 250-260 without the shell and over 300 with the shell, but i am convinced i have got it tuned right

Yes It will make a complete diffrence. You need a hole in the front and rear to allow the air to flow through and cool off the head. Go to my profile and look in my albums of my maxx and youll see about what kinda hole you need. The more area in the rear you have cut out will help.

You can't really see the back windshield but its mostly cut out. Air has to flow over the head to cool it.

Thanks for your reply mate, is cutting the holes likely to save me over 30 degrees???

I dont know really how much it will cut off, but I'm sure you'll see a dramatic change. Youll prolly see around 275 or so. That about the right temp anyway.

Thanks alot for all your help you obviously know your stuff!

Just another really quick question, I'm currently using tornado 20% fuel, if i were to change to say o'donnell 20% would it matter that i ahve change manufactorers of fuel?

Well, personally, I stick with whatever fuel I broke the engine in with. If you stay in the same percentage, I guess it shouldn't hurt anything. Probably will require a bit of retuning, though.

cutting out holes in the windshield looks so tacky, cut out the door windows and the one at the rear of the cab and that should help take care of temp problems

So what if it looks tacky if it keeps the engine cool who cares. Also something you could try would be to richen up the hsn(highspeedneedle), about 1/16 of a turn and keep doing it until about 250-260. Then when you do that just tune the rest of the needles.:banana-mario:

It does look kind of strange at first but you get used to it. I used a 2 inch hole saw chucked into a drill. It just slices right through with a clean cut, although you might want a vacuum hose running next to it to catch the shavings.

EDIT: This is probably a better pic since it shows you front and back:
