I am selling some stuff and I'm going to have about $350 to buy a new truck. I had no luck with the older T-Maxx with the .15 Pro engine, but I guess the newer engine is better. I have always liked the nitro rustler, and now it has the 2.5 engine in it too, so it would be cool to get that. I would really like to spend the least amount of money possible, and I could get the nitro rustler for about $200 less than the T-Maxx. Which would you guys buy in a situation like this?

maxx, its an awsome truck. lots of hop ups and replacement parts avaliable in almost every LHS. have fun, later
 
depends on what u want to do, the 2 vehicals arnt ne thing alike. one is a stadium truck and one is a off roader. the rustler doesn't have much ground clearence and is only 2wd. the t-maxx has a good amount of ground clearence, can soak up the jumps and is 4wd with 2 speed. i would go with the t-maxx because it suites my needs better because i live out in the middle of no wheres, i have a lot of hills and jumps, so the t-maxx is better for me. i would just get too frustrated with the rustler, it was bad enough when i had a HPI Nitro MT. but if u have not much room to run(say u live in the suburbs), and its pretty flat, go with the rustler.

Thanx for ur replies. There is a huge dirt hill over by a construction site that everyone has been drivin their trucks on and stuff, I'm just a little nervous on spending 350 for a new truck when i can't even sell one that I invested 600 into already. If I were to get the new 2.5 engine with the pro-line maxx suspension kit, would my old one perform just as well as the new maxx's?
 
i think so. u would end up spending around $200 though to make a new version t-maxx. around $150 for the TRX 2.5 engine plus around $40 for Pro-Line suspension kit plus a few other odds and ends. its up to u.

See, I drove my friends rustler, and I loved it. It has so much acceleration, and that is what I like the most about it. I'm still really close as to which one I want to get because I havent had too much luck with my old maxx at all. I hit a rock at about 10mph and it caused the spur gear to get caught up in the steel throttle cable, which chipped about 4 teeth off of it and not to mention blew a piston in the engine.

another thing, if I had a job right now (which I don't), I would get the T-maxx hands down, no buts about it. I'm 14 yrs old, and planning on getting a job at meijer or something this summer. Right now I'm still at the stage of "sell old stuff, get new stuff" (lol).

By the way, is $150 good for a barely broken-in 2.5 rustler?

with ur t-maxx, did u do the carb flip so the steering linkage didnt go over the spur gear? if u flip the carb the linkage will not get in the way of the spur gear. i will see if i can find a article on how to do it.

why dont u think about a sport maxx then upgrade to a Tmaxx at a later date when u sell ur .15 you only need a few after market parts to make a Tmaxx out of a Smaxx plus i have a sport maxx and i beat my mates Tmaxx all day long
 
You know what, I looked on ebay and the sportmaxxsare going for way less than the t-maxxs. I think I'll get a sportmaxx. I mean with 2 wheel drive wont it have more power to the wheels anyway?
 
The only thing compromised would be handling. The front wheels will help by pulling the truck through a turn.
 
that's ok, I'll just get some nice tires with big treads on the front and then cut the treads in half for better handling (thanks rc car action ;) )
 
I have the Tmaxx, got it with a .15. Just installed the 2.5. I know someone with the nitro rustler. The Tmaxx is a "Go anywhere" truck. Grass, gravel, dirt or asphalt. The Rustler with the 2.5 is almost uncontrollable. Great if you want real fast, but takes a lot of self control on the trigger. At half throttle, it will still do a wheelie and end up on it's back when you pull full trigger.
4WD is the way to go. More weight, more traction, better overall balance.
 
yea but you guys must of not heard me say i am strict on cash, and I dont have a job. Like tez2i said, you can always upgrade to a 4x4 later. Right now, I can get a sportmaxx for about $80 less. When I get a job over the summer or something, I will get a 4x4 kit.
 
I hear you on the cash flow problem. Since it is still early in the year and school really isn't out yet, I would hold off on getting the sportmaxx. Save the $80 needed to get the t-maxx. Basically, do it right and do it once. You won't regret it. Yeah, you'll be out of a truck for a little bit longer, but when you do get your maxx, you won't be regret it. Never settle for what's available ... get what you want, especially in this hobby. Mistakes are costly ... both in fixing/upgrades as well as bad purchases.
 
Repair wise, if you are going to by a 4x4 truck A savage25 will cost the same in the begining, and less in parts. They are a little tougher out of the box.

For now, since you are on a budget, buy the Tmaxx 2.5 A-arms and turnbuckles used off ebay (maybe $30) then you have the same suspension as a 2.5 maxx.

Then for an engin ebay a cheaper but decent .18 engine. Like the XTM .18 ($100) they will blow the doors off a new 2.5 maxx and are easier to tune.

In the end you will have a 2.5 maxx, with a bigger engine.

The A-arms and turnbuckles are about the only differencebgetween the .15 and the 2.5

total 130-$150, results beefed up - haul ass 2.5 maxx
 
yea but wouldn't I need a .21 conversion kit to buy the .18 engine?
 
Nope, .18 are drop in motors. All you have to do is cut the shaft on the engine.
 
Yes, both of those will work to extend your maxx to the 2.5 width :D

My thought was why throw out the cash for a 2.5 when you can have one for the price of a few a-arms.
