just bought a used t maxx for 100 bux ;), it has a 2.5r engine with 3.3 tranny. i want to race not just bash. so i guess my questions are...is this a good truck to start with? what should i check first (since its used)? is this a good truck for racing? what upgrades can i make to it to make it better and last longer? thanks in advance!

Welcome to RCNT!

The short answer is no. The T-Maxx is a monster truck and you would be stuck racing against the Revo in that class if they still run the class. You need to check your local track. You simply can't compete with a Revo with a T-Maxx. The Maxx is an ok basher with the right upgrades.

if you set the maxx up right it could outrun the revo. it also depends on the drivers. I have a maxx with the normal shock setup and one setup lower for that purpose.. but if you want to race kinda pro then it might not be the best for that unless you learn the truck and its handling and stuff.. but for a beginner racer probly not the best.

there will be hundreds of opinions about this subject.. but I have noticed there isnt as many mt races anymore there is alot more truggy races short course races and buggys.. thats atleast the case in my area..

I put titanium traxxas shocks with softer springs and set in the outer hole on the a-arms and the middle hole on the towers (except the front one because I have an rpm front tower)

what about the engine? should i stay stock or consider an upgrade to 3.3 or to the om21? or is the 2.5r good enough? if so how do i make it more long lasting and durable? also i stated i just got it, i havent inspected it our ran it. what do i need to check to make sure its ok? the hobby shop doesn't open till tuesday so i dont have any fuel yet...

a bigger motor never hurts.. but I would use the 2.5 to get used to the truck myself, but then again if I had the money I would probly have a bigger motor.

make sure your fuel lines are clear and make sure you dont have any air leaks in the tank. check your gear meshing and make sure that your screws and bolts are tight. I would also greese up the bearings. I use spray litium grease for mine.

I also have a tmaxx with an OS engine I need help wheels don't move when on the floor
I hear its a good engine ?

on the t maxx i would also get a fail safe/temp gauge, it would cut the engine off when out of radio distance, and the temp gauge will help you keep your engine up to temp, venom makes a two in one combo its about 20 bucks, always read the tuning guide that's one this site, it will save you a lot of headaches

Thanks any suggestions on mgt 4.6 with Robinson trani ? Aluminum gears n body
