i am getting a new traxxas t-maxx, and want to upgrade the engine alot. what engine do ya'll think i should get? the one on the truck is the stock .15

thanks
collin

you could upgrade the the trx 3.3 with there trade in program or if you really wanted to go big a Os 21tm is a direct drop in

The trouble with the motor upgrade is you will stress the rest of your truck, ie drivetrain, the OS21 will definately cause you to spend some money on your drivetrain. For the money and what you are getting you really can't beat the Traxxas trade up program to the 3.3.

its better to just buy a new 3.3 for 339.00, but if u enjoy building and money no issue upgrade, i did the same project. go on traxxas.com the exploded veiws and parts list help a ton. the only thing on my .15 original is the frame and diffs, everything is t maxx 3.3. except the a arm they are rpm. it did cost about the price of a new 3.3 maybe a lil more, but it helps u learn about the truck, and this site will help u figure out anything. and know I'm ready for a new truck i just ordered a hpi savage kit. good luck with the build the t maxx is a fun truck. o ya do the engine last cause there is so much u have to buy before the truck can handle the true power of the 3.3 on old .15 set up.

I would definetely get the 4908 3.3 maxx. I still had stuff breaking with just the 3.3, but it's way tougher than a 2.5.

ok thanks what would i need to upgrade if i wanted to go to the 3.3?
also, where are some good schematics it?

Go on traxxas and look up the 'tmaxx classic' parts list. Get drive shafts to start and then you'll need diffs....minimum. The 2.5 doesn't have the revo-spec driveline but it'll hold for a little while I guess. Even the revo spec stuff will break though.

If you're thinking an os 21 on a 2.5 maxx you can afford a new 3.3.

You can go to the Traxxas site and they can give you the details on their engine exchange program to swap the .15 for a 2.5r or a 3.3 for not a whole lot of money.

3.3 trans, drive shafts, half shafts, axle carriers, diffs should hold for awhile, 2.5 conversion kit for throtle set up, . That will get it strong to hold the engine power. Or just throw the 3.3 in and watch it break .

If your gonna buy all that stuff, you might just look into finding a roller on ebay or something...those parts are gonna add up unless you do some shopping around....

after its broke in youll need lots of room to run it. i ran on grass one time, it looked like i pored dirt all over, have ran on pavement ever after. not to change your mind but a jato is great if you dont need off road. i just got one its great on pavement. after you lock the rear diff.

i went to my lhs and got a brand new 3.3 for $159 i put it on the 2.5 chassis and it runs great! but buy the steel cvds or something the stock ones dont hold up!

yeah hamz i went on traxxas.com and saw the upgrade thing where you trade in your old stuff for new upgraded ones. the 3.3 racing engine and the new 2.4ghz together would only cost $200. and once I'm done upgrading and hop ups, this thing will be a worthy canidate for shelf queen. but we aint gonna enter cause we'll be out MUDDIN!:hehe:

oh yeah and has anyone ever heard of maxy's? its a kind of nitro fuel
that is why i am buying all the new parts before i get it so i can install the parts and then i will buy the new engine

Never heard of that fuel. You really should use a quality fuel. A lot of people recommend O'Donnell's, but I used a 20% called Cool Power that's a heli fuel from Sidewinder. Never had a problem with it.

i hate the traxxas fuel too! but its the only way warrenty will still cover it.
oh if you havent already you might want to put the foward only kit in the tranny.

Maxxy's is supposed to be good fuel. I smelled it and nearly fainted. HARSH. Byron's or Sidewinder, O'Donnell's and then Trinity MHP 30%. In that order.

yeah hamz and scrogg, that was the fuel that was used on the truck that i bought, which is why i am getting the 3.3. i use O'DONNEL 20%. and i dont want to run the engine that is on it with my o'donnel, because i dont want it to run crappy all the time. also are center drive shafts and half shafts the same? I'm confused as what to buy. i bought 3.3 diffs and trans but i am confused with the center drive shafts/half shafts.

The stock 4908 rear drive shaft will fit both the front, and the back, of a 2.5 T Maxx. They hold up fine to the 3.3. Just have to make sure and get the big ones. Watch the packaging. They're considerably larger than the 2.5 center shafts. Bring an old one with you to compare the two. They're cheap, too.

ok so all i need to get is the 3.3 trans, diffs, drive shafts, center drive shafts and half shafts. right? cause I'm going to buy them today on ebay or my lhs.
