Hey guys, i just bought a t-maxx 2.5 today, the guy at the hobby shop fastly told me how to start it up and set it. I managed to get it running, it starts fine, but i'm worried that it could spin too fast. The guy told me to burn at least one gas tank idling for the break in, but i'm scared that if i let it burn all this tank, something bad could happens if it turns too fast. how can i slow the idle ? i adjusted the air intake at the smallest i could, now what can i do ? Just want to let you guys know that it's my first ever rc truck, i don't have any experience towards those.

I wish guys in hobby shops would actually take the time to learn about these engines and pass on the proper information to those that buy them.

The break in is absolutely critical to the long life and performance of these little beasts so do not rush it.
There are a few methods out there, but go to the Traxxas web site and watch the video for their recommendation.
Keep us posted as you go, and we'll let you know how you're doing.

I just found out a series of 21 videos on youtube on the setup of a t-maxx, gonna watch all those. the guy at the shop told me not to rush it too, and if i'm having too much trouble, i can go to the shop on thursday then an expert will give me a little lesson on how to set it up, for free. yet, i'd love to try it tomorrow so i'll give it a try without pushing it too much. the only thing i'd like to know is, how does a good revolving engine sound ? as i never heard any before, i can't tell if it revolves too high or too low and i can't find a proper video on youtube about this.

+1 for rolex's advice, If she's idling too high the truck will move by itself and if too low it won't stay running, yes a person can tell a tune by ear but its not something one learns in a day, do yourself a great favor and read the tuning threads on this forum, and ask questions, we will help you understand something if you get confused,

so, as long as it doesn't move by itself, it cannot really be hurt ?

and another question, do you guys recommend to put the antenna tube ? i'm noticing that almost no one has those sticking out, does it change something ? (Just managed to get the damn wire through the tube hehe)

I would use the Traxxas break in method. Take your time and enjoy the learning experience of nitro so you will get more from the hobby.

i'll wait tomorrow and give a try to the traxxas method ! won't do it now as i think my neighbour wont love me :D

hey i just found out these in the box, what are they ?

Sounds like a pretty good idle, maybe a little high, the more fuel you put through it the better it will idle and run, as stated above follow the break in method word for word, and dont get in a hurry. there are some stickies at the top of the nitro section, read them, they will help.

well i'd follow the break in method, but i can't even get it to roll straight without jerking or braking..

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stgQ1OghwkI"]YouTube[/ame] take a look, to me it sounds like it's cutting off, the truck is shaking and it jerks..

If your T MAXX has reverse the jerking is normal. When your done with the break in you can tune most of the jerking out. To get rid of the jerking all togther you will have to install a forward only conversion (FOC).

I believe you have a clutch bell/shoe issue. Not positive, but I would check to be sure the interior of the bell is still round and not oval. I bent one in a bad crash that did exactly this same thing. Just pop another bell on and see if you don't have a micrometer. Hope it works out. Good luck!
