t maxx in pond

i just bought a new motor for my truck broke it in this morning.so i let my roomate test it and he drove it right into r pond. my question is how long should i let it dry out before i try to start it or even turn the electrics on???

I don't know if there is any one answer as it depends how wet it got and where the water got into. Certain things like the receiver if left out in a sunny spot and with the connections pulled may be dry out within a day.
Your servos may have drowned and once water gets in them, you may be best advised to crack them open to let them dry out completely. You can also roll the dice and and hope whatever seals they may have kept the water at bay - which if they were submerged is doubtful.
I'd err on the side of caution and open em up since water even in the form of condensation and electricty don't mix.
You may also want to use some WD 40 since it displaces water...

ity sank but he pulled it right out i took the receiver out the servos were a little wet took the glow plug out and pulled the pull start a few time to clear out whatever water may have got in there hopefully i dont need to buy all new electronics but it would b a good time to trade up my stock radio for the new 2.4ghz

and immediately fill every part of your engine in after run oil, tear it down and use WD-40 on every bearing if you hope to save them. I personally wouldn't do anything less than a total tear down including taking the engine backplate off and making sure to spray some WD40 real well in there to displace the moisture and keep the cylinder and bearings from rusting.

I could not agree more! A COMPLETE teardown, cleaning, and protecting with some WD is the ONLY answer in this case. You will regret it if you do not do this.

I never put mine in a pond but i did roll it in a puddle that swallowed it up all u could see was tires. I took all my servos and receiver and put em in a container with white rice and it absorbed all the moister out( I'm guessing since they all work perfectly still) i did not brake down my motor i didn't think i needed to (Even tho it was filled with water) i just sealed everything up with rtv weeks before drownding it and my motor still runs great and that was last year

well the electrics are shot new radio and reciever new hitec steering servo and luckily i had a old servo that i could use for the throttle the only thing i was able to save was the battery pack even the fail safe quite working but its back up and running so lesson is stay away from the pond

Ha Ha! I did the same thing to mine! I blew everything off with an air compressor then disassembled the engine. put it all back together and it worked great! you must of let yours sit in there for a while!

i just bought a new 2.4 ghz traxxas radio and receiver that has a built in failsafe but all it does is put the throttle servo back to center which isnt much of a failsafe i have a venom failsafe but when i hook up the failsafe to the receiver is does not work. so i guess my question is there a way to override the traxxas failsafe?

I wouldn't have footed the bill, that's for sure. Though my foot probably would've ended up somewhere... If I drove somebodies $500 toy into a pond, you can bet that it would lead to a trip to the hobby shop on my dime.

I have sunk Maxx before, just do like syphon68 said....full break down and a lot of wd40 and seal that engine up when you put it back together. The engine will be fine, it's the electronics that you need to worry about. Even if they dry out and work I'm not sure that I would trust them anymore.

Good job not getting too upset about it! I have had my son and friends break rc's before, it's a toy and will get broken with you or without you...IMO it's not that big of a deal, friends are more important.

+1. I'd be pissed at an adult buddy for a minute. Depending on how the situation was approached. But with kids, stuff happens. That's what Pedes and Rustys are for. It's just like if a friend backs into your car. If it is taken care of properly, stuff happens. If the person puts up a fight about paying for it, then that's not much of a friend anyways.

Put the electronics in a bag of dry rice for bout 24 hrs.

Worked magic with my mytouch cell phone after going swimming..

yeah if it would have been somebody else i would have been pissed but I've broke his stuff before and he's footin the bill so no big deal motors running fine i was in need of a new radio and receiver anyway so it worked out i guess
