hey guys clutch makes like a sqeaky sound when engaging old clutch did it then spring broke now new clutch doing it any one know what this might be thanks

Is it more of a "squeal" than a squeak? Your bearings could be on the way out for the clutchbell

yeh a squeal, the bearings are not that old though how often do they wear out probably done about 2 gallons with them

Theyre cheap enough and worth replacing after a couple gallons. If theyre locked up than running them in that condition could lead to alot bigger and more expensive issues for you.

They probably need replacing. They can turn into bushings and wear the crank snout and/or clutch bell.

but when i pull the engine out and spin the clutch bell it spins nice and free

If you have it that far than disassemble the entire clutch assembly and evaluate what you got. Should only take 5 minutes tops to see whats gone bad and needs attention.

Somebody told me this could also be caused by a loose slipper clutch

It could be but you didnt say it wouldnt drive. Does or did it still drive and make the noise?

Try using some sandpaper or emry tape and scuff up the inside of the clutch bell. This will give the clutch a good surface to grab on to. Sounds like it could be slipping a little hope this helps.

Engine clutches rarely squeal unless it has a bad bearing(s) and then they squeal mostly when at idle speed, or a broken spring/shoe.
A slipper that is a little too loose, or the mesh between the spur and clutch bell being too tight will make a squealing/whirring sound at times.
Check the slipper adjustment and re-set the mesh and see it the squeal persists.

Ok thanks guys thinking back I did change the spur gear and I think it has been since then

put new bearings in and tightened slipper, problem gone thanks guys
