I still havent ran my truck much at all but was curious what you guys think about taking my maxx over some Bmx track jumps. I've been reading many threads saying how weak the T-Maxx is and how much better a Savage is when it comes to bashing. After reading this and the luck I've had. oh I think I'm going to :puke: lol I'm almost afraid to do anything other than drive around in circles in my front yard because its going to snap in two or something. I bought it thinking it was one of the tuffest 4x4 Trucks out there and now finding out that is not true. My truck isnt completley stock it does have a rear titanium skid plate, rpm mid and rear skid plates and thanks to Plaidfish it has Rpm front A-arms and I also have 2 very sweet big bore aluminum shocks from Zandor who also set me up with everything else I needed to put it back together from my pole incedent lol.... thanks again Guys :) The rest of my shocks are aluminum dynamite adjustable shocks and oh yeah it has aluminum shock towers I would think it could take a beating but I'm very unsure at this point. Right now I dont have much $$$ so I can't afford to fix it if I break. So what do you think???? Bash or no and should I get rid of it in the future when I'm in a better financial sitsuation and buy a Savage???

Go and bash. I have jumped BMX jumps small big and huge with my maxx and never broke anything. From what I have witnessed and experienced the maxx is a good basher but not very forgiving in that I mean if u do a major crash u might break or hurt somthing that if u did it with a savage it might be ok if u can jump and land good u can go big air dont let what people say worry u. u wont know till u try it yourself

I probally will but take it easy on it at first, I dont expect it to be bullet proof or anything I was just under the impression It WILL break and wont take much to do it. I was suprised it diddnt break more when It hit that pole at WOT lol even though i thought I was going to :puke:

"Take it easy" what is this concept all I know is WOT lol. ya those poles will jump out and get u somtimes I am always suprised I dont break more things

Don't worry about what people say. Everyone has their own opinions about the Tmaxx or any truck for that matter, but I've had mine for about a month and a half now and have had no problems with it except for a minor tuning issue but I'm still learning that aspect of it. I've bashed it lots already and have had nothing break. Most of it is stock except for cooling head, tuned pipe, skid plates, fuel filter, and roll cage. A new cooling head and tuned pipe is recommended though to get better performance out of it. My point is, HAVE FUN!! No truck is unbreakable. Anything can break. The good thing about thsi hobby is parts are replaceble from screws to engines. If you sit there and worry, your tmaxx will get bored.

The typical day of heavy bashing will leave 80% of the trucks broke in some form or other, typically minor. Yes, even the ALMIGHTY Salvage breaks.

Your comment above is right on. Don't go for the huge air on your first tank, pace yourself and when the day is near over, start pushing the envelope further and further, afterall what is the sence in having a monster truck if all you're gonna do is putt around the yard?

Last Saturday bash session;

T-Maxx #1; Upside down in a creek on about tank 6

T-Maxx #2; Un-diagnosed driveline problem tank 8

T-Maxx #3; Broken rear outdrive and shock shaft end, repaired on sight, day ended when second rear outdrive broke. This was the owners fault as he continually landed the truck under power.

XXX-NT; Broken ball stud, geez I have nearly another whole truck in NIP parts and didn't have a ball stud....dummy. Still ran 9-10 tanks prior.

Savage; Tank #1, something let loose in the driveline and was front wheel drive only.

T-Maxx #4; Walked away unscathed after about 6-8 tanks

If you're gonna bash - hard- you're gonna break frequently.

Mr T

I've beat the crap out of mine, and with min. damage. So what if it breaks anyway. I mean I wouldn't want it to happen, but if it does they make replacment parts for it. I say have fun with it. Isn't that what you bought it for? Bash away my friend. It may, or may not break, but either way it will be fun.

The only thing I will say is let off the gas when you land those big jumps. It seems my throttle linkage that goes from the carb to the pivot post likes to get stuck in the spur gear when I land a big jump on the gas leaving it WOT. That will break parts if you aren't there to catch it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the post guys Once I fix it LOL I will take it out and have some fun with it guess I shouldnt start by jumping it off my house ? :jk: I would probally taken it out and bashed it even if everyone told me it would break because your all right I diddnt get it to put around the yard, I know that there is no way you can go out and bash it and never break it just not possible, I was just starting to think they where just very know for breaking easy. I guess its alot like 4 wheeling you never know what you might break, I had a Jeep once and everytime I took it up to the mnts that thing would break actually it broke just on a weekly basis of normal driving, it became a huge money pit and I diddnt get to enjoy it much because I was constantly working on it, I just diddnt want my rc to be the same way if you know what I mean :). I actually like working on my Truck but it would be nice to get some run time. I've only ran it a couple times and two out of the 3 times I brought it in broken but both times where my fault low batteries, took off and ate a pole lol at WOT and spur gear got munched because the mesh was off from the crash should have checked it ! at least I learned some lessons out of it lol. The little bit I have drivin it though I loved it tons of power and that thing will go over just about anything. I have a electric rustler its fun to jump and spin dohnuts out on the street but its nothing compared to my Maxx.

Jesse I take mine out to the BMX tracks here (we have to sneak in though) and beat the snot out of them...I know when my day is done because something broke and I didn't have the part to fix it.....I usually do the biggest jumps w/ my mostly stock maxx It just has RPM ars and cheapo aluminum Bulks and a slimeline pipe...everything else on that baby is stock and it takes a pretty damn good beating....usually it's stupid stuff that breaks too like turnbuckles and pivot balls bending or loosing set screws causing the shafts to get mangled......just remember you might have hit that pole and totalledyour maxx but you might hit it in the same way and just drive away from it.......it's the luck of the draw man.........I find the stock stuff to be a little better for testing crazy stuff anyway...if it breaks your not freaking out because you just did 400 bucks in damage....If I wrecked my racing maxx like yours It would have cost around 4-5 large to fix.....just keep it simple and learn the air control by using the brakes LIGHTLY in the air and throttle control into and out of jumps, just like the 4x4s you have a better insight than most RC drivers as to what the engine should be doing in the air and on landings from being in the real trucks

Yeah I have jumped my Chevy a couple times lol and I know you dont want to come down WOT I have 33 inch tall tires and almost 13 inches wide. If i was to land it like that drive shafts would be flying lol. I dont usally jump my truck hehe but its happend once or twice. That would really make me :puke: hehe if I did 400 in damage on a rc truck. I dont think I even have that much total in my entire truck lol.

yeah when you get into "Performance" just throw the budget out the window....my mutant maxx mods have been just ridiculous....I think I'm going to design a new chassis and have it cut and then millout some thickness to giv it ribs for strength.......then I can just chuck the whole mutant maxx chassis set onto E-bay and be done w/ it all together.....I ordered a sheet of 7075 aluminum today and its $75 for a 24x36 4mm thick plate and the cnc should cost around $40 for the cutting and I'm doin the Cadd work......but I'll have a truggy chassis that uses a OFNA 2-speed center diff....I did my mod on the upper chassis and diff brace to put a larger spur on the mutant chassis but I used some soft aluminum and it bent on the first big jump I took...oh well welcome to the realm of R&D right? point is speed cost money, how fast can you afford to go?

lol I'm thinking stock is how fast I can afford when it comes to my Maxx lol. Someday I want to build a prostreet rc Drag car that would be sweet. Something with a really cool body like the bolink 56 nomad but for now I will keep my Maxx simple and beat the snot out of it lol!!! Mabe I will design some new suspension for it and get a patent and become a millionare haha

Yeah, the only thing that is "weak" that i found was the bulkheads and shock towers. If you land wrong, those were the things that broke, amazingly enough. Just learn how to jump. i know i will have to learn on my maxx cause i havent driven it in over 6 months. I've hopped it up a lot since then, and i need to break in the new engine and get used to how it handles. I will be running it as soon as the custom engine mount comes in, but untill then, i have a new throttle servo to put in and some new diff gears. I think its more fun working on the things then actually drive them. Beat the heck outta ur maxx and let us know how it went. Don't forget to check the batteries.

Hey Now your trying to get in on my game w/ that design talk....

Hehe well I have dont some fabricating over the years on all of old cars and trucks :) I think I'm going to start with the maxx I have some ideas at least

It's not the jump that will hurt you, it's the landing...

Funny stuff aside, biggest thing to watch out for is hitting the ground with too much throttle. Also, as you already know, hard objects can wreak havoc with the suspension pieces. Avoid hard lumpy landing sites and landing the maxx lopsided, such as one wheel hitting hard first.

Some of the greatest bashing that i have ever experienced was at a local BMX track. The nice thing is the jumps were so nice and smoothe. The jumps launched you straight, and the landings were smoothe. It was great. I would definitely recommend that you try it. If you dont feel comfortable, take it easy at first. The key is smoothe throttle control when you leave the ramp. That can make all the difference. Of course some things will break if you go crazy enough - but thats a part of the fun, right? :eyes: The t maxx is stronger than you think, its just when you crash weird that youll break stuff. Just go at you own pace.

I agree with cobra198, take it easy on the throttle at first. If you want to practice jumping without breaking anything, try this ramp, a long sheet of plywood, on grass, and 1-7 ciderblocks/bricks under it. I use this all the time, it works great because you can control the angle of the jump.
