I've got a t maxx 4910 with a 3.3 on it. I pulled the motor and when i put it back i didnt get the mesh right with the spur and bell ate every tooth on it lol. I was wanting to upgrade to the steel spur but I'm seeing that the red pieces that go in the holes on the spur, there are many more holes on the steel gear do i need more of the red pieces or what I'm not sure what to do here or should i just go back with the standard plastic spur
 
Stick with plastic for sure. Use all 12 of the slipper pegs in the spur when you install. If you get a good mesh there is no reason to use a steel spur gear.

Thank u thats what I'm going to do. And unlike last time I'm gonna use a piece of copy paper to set my mesh, read that that would get it just right on someone elses post
 
If you keep the motor mount screws just tight enough so you can barely move the motor, then press the bell up tight against the spur and back it off by just a hair. Then tighten you motor down really good using loctite on the screws. You should be able to hear a clicking sound between the spur and bell. Use your copy paper to check afterwards.

I would definitely not waste the money on a steel gear.
If you have a good allen wrench there's no need for loctite.
 
I just go by sound and feel never had good luck with paper method ruined gears. what i mean by sound and feel is put gears together and slowly pull motor apart while spinning spur gear until both spur and clutch bell spin nice and easy and not clunking noise thats way i do it works for me.
 
The paper method of meshing gears has never failed me. I still use and then use the spin and feel for loose gears. If it did not feel tight the first time I will use another strip of paper then do it again. I use Blue lock Tight on my mounting bolts and let it dry for for about 1/2 hour before I stick the bolt into the block.
 
In my experiance, the paper method usually ends up with the mesh being too tight, but its a decent way for a beginner to get it close.

I also dont find the need for locktite on engine mount screws if you use quality screws and a good wrench. Junk screws/wrenches, you better use some locktite or the paper you used to set the mesh would have been better off making an airplane with it.:p:
