I think it is time to replace the engine on my 2.5 t-maxx. It will crank and run fine for about 3 mins and then it starts loosing power and will finally just quit and then it will not start back until I let it sit for about 5-10 mins and then it will start back and do the same thing again. I am pretty sure it is tuned correct because it will run great when I first start it with a good trail of blue smoke behind it at all times and if I try to richin it up a little then it does not want to start when it is cold because it is getting to much fuel. Is this the sign of a wore out engine?

try leaning it alittle bit because it might be hogging up on extra fuel... and maybe a new plug.. try that before you spend the money and then find out it was fine.... another thing you can open it up and check things out alittle bit and then seal it when you put it back together just incase it's leaking air aswell.. but yeah try to lean it some because I had that problem and its because it was flooding itself out... (well in my case and hopefuly in your case too)... what kind of fuel you using??

Once it's warm & quits, is there any compression if you turn the flywheel by hand?

I hadn't tried turning the motor by hand after it quits. I will have to try that when I run it again and see if it has any compression.

Also I forgot to mention that the motor is very hot when it cuts off. It is so hot that it has steam coming from the head of the motor. It acts just like it is running lean but I can't richin it up any because it will not start or run right.

Sure you can richen it up! Richen the high speed needle, you're overheating it to the point where it just can't idle anymore.

That is the problem when I try to richin it up an 1/16-1/8 turn it will not even shift to second gear and will be smoking real bad out of the pipe because it is running so rich and then I can lean it back up 1/16-1/8 of a turn and it will run great, shift like it should and still have a good trail of smoke coming from the pipe but it will still get very hot and quit.

There be your problem my friend . Alot of people recommend staying away from that fuel as it has too much oil content check out the search feature on fuels and I'm sure you will find something handy .:D

odonells- trinity- anything almost but traxxas from experience!!!!! it will alwasy have a smoke trail even when it should be showing signs of lean!!! so new fuel and a temp gun.. a good place to start!!!

Traxxas fuel sucks, but that's not your only problem. You may have a bad air leak or a lean lsn.....or a junk engine.

Ok. I will try to find me some new fuel. What is the best fuel to run and where is the best place to get it? Also I rechecked all the settings on my carb today and my HSN was set at 4 1/16 turns out and the LSN was set at 2 turns out and that is with the resonator pipe and motor saver filter.
