I just put the Sirio .18 into my T-maxx 2.5 this weekend. After a several hour install on friday night, I fired it up on Saturday morning. I used the Trinity 20% break in fuel with it and a McCoy MC-9 plug. Also, I ordered the tuned pipe, but it is on backorder, so I used the t-maxx 2.5 pipe and drilled out the pipe as recommended.

Several things for anyone considering this motor.

1)It is easier to tune with only 2 adjustment screws. 1 HSN & 1 LSN.

2)It is more stable, idles better & etc.

3)After 6 tanks of break-in fuel, I switched to my Traxxas 20% fuel. I had to lean up the needles pretty good.

4)It runs very well and is really powerful, I would guess 15 to 20% more powerful; however, the power isn't overwelming. Don't get me wrong it runs GREAT, but don't expect it to be a whole world of difference.

5)Overall, I would do it again, but the 2.5 motor is pretty good for a .15, albeit very touchy to tune & maintain. I think the 2.5 is simply too small for the t-maxx which causes it to be stressed & overheat & such. I run the 2.5 in my rustler 2.5 and it never stalls, overheats or etc. In the t-maxx I had nothing but stalls, constant tuning issues & etc.

This message is just a follow-up for anyone thinking of making the conversion. In my opinion, the t-maxx just needs a motor bigger than .15 so it doesn't get undully stressed. The sirio installs very well, excepts the easy start system, and is only around $175.00 at tower with the discount. Sell your 2.5 on ebay & make the plunge, you will be happy.

Have you removed the restrictor yet??? I'm sure it will have a lot more power if you do... oh it is a Huge increase over the pro .15.........

restrictor?

What restrictor are you talking about? I am not clear on this.

The carb restrictor. it is the shiny thing in your carb barrel.. if you remove it you should get a pretty good increase in power...

It will allow more air to get into the engine so the air/feul mixture will go up.

nice post. I love my Sirio in my maxx. wait until you actually take out the restrictor and get about a gallon through it. Sirio's are known to wake up after a gallon so we will talk later about a whole different world:thumbup: btw wait until you get the Sirio pipe to match the engine. Even though you drilled out the nozzel it still restricts the engine.
Ooh and after you get used to all that, cut 1/4 off of the end of the header. Gotta love Sirio's;)

then switch out the regular button for the turbo button and run 30%8-0

restrictor

Thanks for the advise on the restrictor. Do I just remove it, do I need to do anything special? Any instructions on this anywhere?

no it is just a siver insert inside the carb were the arfilter mounts just grab the silver ring and pull. i didn't notice much of a differance until i got the sirio pipe. when i put the new pipe on i could not believe how much of a differance it made it was unbelievable

Sirio upgrade

Hi guys

This is my very first Post at these great Forums.
I am not stranger to Forums, as I am a Super Moderator at YourMicro and at the Mini-ZRacer Forums
I must admit the input on RCNitroTalk is excellent.

Being a fellow T-MAXX 2.5 owner, I've just bought the Sirio 3.0/.18 motor, header pipe and dual head (turbo/standard) package for my MAXX truck.
The EBay seller doesn't ship outside of the U.S., so I have asked him to ship it to a freind of mine in Camarillo CA, who will inturn ship it across the pond to me. ETA is 2-3 weeks.

Reading this Thread has answered a lot of questions I've been meaning to ask.
Although I haven't sourced a Sirio pipe on EBay yet (no "Buy Now" options and bidding sucks), so my amigo in CA. is hunting one down for me. He also owns a T-MAXX 2.5 and bought himself a Sirio .18 too this weekend.

Reading the feeback from the Members who have undertaken the upgrade just makes me look forward to the new powerplant.

I'll be sure to keep you informed of progress and so forth.

Hey Mondo, welcome to the RCNT forums... I remember getting alot of useful info from your posts in the yourmicro forums...
Hope us guys here at RCNT can return the favor....

An old face

Hey ImBroken :)
Good to see you again. Now comes the time where I'm going to be in need of advice and help ;)
Thanks for the welcome and expect to see more of me (and a few other YM Members) here

Welcome to RCNT Mondo! Good luck with the Sirio!!! I know a place in England that sells Sirio stuff if you are interested?

seems like since your SO much closer to Italy that you might as well get them from Europe rather than go from Europe to USA back to Europe.

humboldtblazer,
Thanks for the warm welcome :)
Sure, I've bought the motor allready, but perhaps I can source a pipe localy. That would be much easier.

Another reason why we UK RC nuts buy on EBay is that we actually get ripped off here. £1=US$1.57, so we should be paying about 30-35% less.
No, the distributors make it sqare, as in £1=$1, so if you pay $120 for a kit, we will pay £120 which equals about US$191!

I do support local HS dealers where possible, but for example I paid the equivalent of $600 for a T-MAXX here in the UK. There comes a time where you have to use EBay to keep the hobby more cost effective.

How many ports?

I've been picking up various contradictions regarding the Sirio .18.

The Trinity webpage says it's 5 Port, according to the picture on the right.
Lower down on the page there is a table that claims it's 7 port, not counting the exhaust port!

http://www.teamtrinity.com/nitro/engines/sirio/sirio.asp

Any idea on the true amount of ports on the Sirio .18?

Mine is the 7 port and all the new ones are also. If you bought one of the first generation Sirio .18 TX engine then it only had 5 porst but Sirio supposedly said they would exchange the 5 ports (unused) for the new 7 port engine.
