Really could use some advice on this one.

This question surrounds my son's E-Maxx. I know this is the T-Maxx forum, but since both are on the same basic platforms, I'm putting this one here.

Here's the problem. No matter how much I work on adjusting the toe on his truck, I always seem to experience extreme toe-out when the the shocks compress and extreme toe-in when they are not compressed. This occurs on all four wheels, not just the front end.

I have tried everything I personally can think of. I've adjusted the toe to 0 degrees when it is sitting normally countless times and thought I had it licked, but I get the same results.

I know part of the problem may lie in the shocks, so I am rebuilding them and trying a bit heavier of a fluid to slow the compression travel a bit, but if anyone has any other thoughts, I'd sure appreciate them!

It's going on the rack for a complete teardown and rebuild, so I'm hoping I can get this solved while I'm working on it.

Thanks in advance!

It sounds to me that the shocks would be the culprit... It could possibly be a problem with the turnbuckles... but that would be obvious I would think.... I am no expert, but I think you are on the right track with the shocks. I would try heavier shock oil along with a stiffer spring. That is the setup I am currently running in my TMaxx.

Actually, the shocks probably have nothing to do with it. I predict it will do the same thing even if you take the shocks off. First thing I would do is check to make sure all the tie rods and camber links are the proper stock lengths and mounted in the proper positions. And check your steering setup also. When the wheels are straight ahead, try to make sure the arm on the steering servo is at 90°.

Good point Candyman... Steering Geometry is still a new subject for me....

I know this issue well.
Your tie rods are mounted on the wrong side of the steering knuckles and / or the steering link. Look at the manual and pay attention to see if they go on the top or the bottoms of each unit. Look on the rear as well.

Can you say BUMP STEER? !!!!

Taken from another site.

"What you created is called bump steer. If you look on the slider on the steering bellcranks (the plastic tie link), your screws that hold the toe links to this bar are coming from the underside of the truck. You need to switch it so the screws are coming in from the top placing the toe link above the drag link"

Hope this helps.

Thats what i was thinking. The tie rods where maybe not mounted in the proper place..Thats the only thig i could think of if it was affecting the front and rear. think i might have done that befor on my maxx ....hmmm

BINGO! been there done that. Make sure your turnbuckles are mounted properly and that should take care of your problem.

OK, I referenced the manual, but I'm not quite sure I have this licked. The rear links were absolutely on the wrong side of the drag link and moving them licked that problem.

My issue now revolves around the front links. The manual seems to indicate that the toe links mount to the underside of the axle carrier drag links, but to the top of the slider on the steering bellcranks (as referenced in SD's post). Now, to be fair, I have not yet adjusted the toe angle, so that may very well be the culprit, but they still toe-out. I'm asking if anyone that has a T-Maxx or E-Maxx that is not experiencing toe issues if they would mind taking a look and verifying that I have the correct set-up or not? I'd be most grateful!

Thanks again for the tips, fellas! Always appreciated!

DING DING DING....Eddy is the winner...MW I did the exact same thing with mine......

Hey MW... would a few pics help? I can try to take some pics and post tonight. Let me know.

Tom

If you are inclined to snap a few pictures, I'd be obliged, but if you can describe how your links are set-up, that'll work as well. I'm not sure if my copy of the manual is just faded to the point of being illegible, but I can't determine from the numerous dotted lines where exactly they go.

Well then, I am reading my manual right (thanks HB).

I guess I'll have to do a little wrenching on it and figure out why it keeps toeing out like it does.

I would try the steering knuckle end of the rod on top of the knuckle. If memory serves, that's how my maxx was.
