I have a Superbrain 989, never tried charging lipos with it. Recently got an erevo and thinking of going brushless with 2 Max Amps 8000 HV packs. On a chat with Maxamps, they say the Brain has and will have problems with LIPOS-is this true? I know I would need a balancer.

They suggested I get a Hyperion 0610i DUO, which I know is a great charger but on top of the charger I will need a power supply-wont this beceome very very expensive?

you can build a power supply for a very inexpensive price by using a PC power supply if you have some spares laying around. You can also buy one pretty cheap. I wouldn't reccomend the brain for the LiPo's, as I've been told by several battery companies that it is not a good choice for LiPo's. Personally when I'm spending that much on a battery I want to use a charger that I know will keep the battery in the best possible condition.

I have a 989 and would not even think of using it on Lipo's no matter what the box says.

MaxAmps and Apogee both state not to use it for Lipo's and as Charlie mentioned, it is not worth the risk.

I started to consider LiPOs for a couple of projects and looked into the Hyperion also. I have the Super Brain 977 Pro, and without doing a lot of research yet, I assumed I could use the 12V power supply from the Brain to power the Hyperion.

It may work to charge the lipo packs,but I think it is more for receiver or transmitter batteries and at a charge rate of .75 amps it may take you a couple of days to charge your batteries, I would recomend maxamps one or something like the Intelipeak Ice it works well for charging lipo's as well but you can only charge one battery at a time, either way you are going to need a power supply...
