Ok, I am new to this forum, but not new to R/C, as I raced in the 80's when the Tamiya hornets were considered competitive. Anyway, I am new to the concept of 2 speed transmissions like the one in me new Savage SS 4.6. I don't have the truck built, but I was looking at the transmission (already built from the factory).
I was looking for the adjustment through the hole in the transmission case and could not find it. I fiddled with the output shafts a bit and saw the notch in the main gear roll into view. I messed with it a little more and finally had the notch line up with the set screw on the 2 speed.
Anyway, my question is this: do you normally have to move this around or should the set screw already be aligned with the notch in the main gear? The manual says to simply rotate the transmission until the set screw comes around. It makes it sound like the set screw is always aligned with the notch in the gear.
Anyway, tell me if this is normal. Or tell me it's normal and a dumb question. Either way, I'm flexible.

no it isnt you can spin it till you see the notch then hold the notch with the alan wrench and spin it till the screw lines up..

Ok, thanks much, beason! I tend to over analyze things like this. I just want my new $400 truck to work right at the start. Breaking it is my job!

oh please' if you haven't installed the tranny. open it up and and pull the center/spur section out and take out the silver screws and put some loc-tite on them and tighten them good. my 2 speed blew out for this reason. those screws backed out and ate the tranny case. hpi is suppose to be aware of this isssue. i haven't sent the part in and caseing just lazy i geuss. i just got the 3 speed cause it happened.

yeah the 2 speed is nice if those screws wouldnt have backed out i would still have it.
