What is the difference between the TRX2.5 and 2.5R as far as interchanging parts goes? Like Piston, rod, Head, carb, air filter, motor mount etc...I know it is a stupid noobie question but that's what I be. Just got my first Tmaxx with a bad 2.5 motor and trying to get it together....Thanks!

OK well lets try is there any difference besides the cooling head?

The only difference is that the 2.5r is ported. If I'm not mistaken some of the porting in the "R" version is in the block. All parts are interchangeable between the two.

I believe that is correct. :)

Edited to add: The ONLY stupid noob question is the one that is never asked. Good for you, well done. That is what this forum is for. Without beginners, there could be no experts, right? :)

YES, If you can afford it buy an Os 21 TM. Very user friendly engine with good torque.

SO my next question is should I upgrade to the 3.3 instead of looking for a 2.5R or just stick with it? What else if anything would also have to be upgraded to switch to a 3.3, or is there something better for around (a little more of course) the same price of a 3.3 that is somewhat easy to tune for a beginner?

Far as I know, the 3.3 will just stab right in, and I know it's easier to tune. The 2.5 is fickle, and produces a lot less power (read: a LOT).

I say, that if yer gonna put about a hundred dollars or more into the thing anyway, step up to the 3.3 or like others have mentioned, the Os .21. :)

Keep your eye on eBay - there are lots of good deals to be had there, and because these nitro engines are so small, the shipping won't break you even if it comes from the other side of the continent haha. Just put "3.3 nitro" or "Os .21" into the search bar, and check out the stuff!
