I cannot get the flywheel off this O.S. Max RZ. I am attempting to put a 2 shoe MIP clutch on the MP6 buggy. They did not have the 3 piece clutch in stock at my LHS. They recommended the MIP because is it so simple. Well I need to get the pins out of the flywheel so I can move one over to the other hole to accept the new 2 shoe clutch. I cannot get the flywheel off to save my life.

I do not believe it is threaded because I have an old worn out one that is not threaded. Also the spare engine only has the threads at the end of the crank for the clutch pilot shaft.

Why won't it come off? Do I need a small jaw puller or something? I tried tapping it but I don't want to damage anything.
 
I just put my engine in a vice, and pry 2 sides of the flywheel with 2 screwdrivers and it pops right off. Just don't tighten it too much!
 
You can actually use a battery contact puller from Napa or your local auto parts store. I myself use a gear puller.
 
I have no vice so I will try the battery terminal puller.

Is the MIP clutch decent with the 2 wrap around springs?

Its not like I'm competing or anything. Just want to get the buggy running and looking good. I'll worry about running it at the track when its all done and I'm used to driving it.
 
MIP clutches are pretty decent. I run one in my rc10gt, and it's a great clutch. Very tunable.
 
I think I will try the battery terminal puller. I tried tapping on it, no go.

Will the flywheel need to be heated to get the pins out?
 
Battery terminal puller is not working either. I have no idea why this flywheel will not come off.

I really only need to move the pins on the flywheel in order to use the 2 shoe clutch. Whats the easiest way to get the pins out of the flywheel with the flywheel still attached to the engine?
 
No the flywheel nut/pilot shaft is off. A lot of the stuff on this car was seized. All the wheel hub bearing were seized etc. It hasn't been touched in a few years.
 
Whats wrong with the clutch thats on it? I always prefer a 3 shoe to a 2 shoe anyday. especially if its on a buggy.

[/URL][/IMG]The stock clutch is just worn out. They didn't have it in stock at my LHS, they had one from HPI but it was slightly different and would not mount. They recommended to swap to the 2 piece they had in stock. Easier said than done when you have a buggy that sat for a few years with no maintenance. I think I will have to just order the Kyosho clutch and install the 3 piece.
I certainly like the the 3 piece design, but driving I probably wouldn't have noticed any diff since I'm no pro. Working on the buggy is nothing like ole' faithful, my RC10GT. I can probably put that together blindfolded!

I was opting for the quickest way for a clutch but now this is pissing me off.

I cannot get the FW off nor can I remove the pins off the FW.
 
With a buggy you will notice the difference from the 2 to the 3 shoe clutch. Any 3 shoe clutch system will fit, if your lhs is telling you different they are full of $hyt.
