Hiya guys, I wonder if anyone can shed a little light on a rather annoying issue I have...here goes...
I have a tmaxx 2.5, it's been sat around for six months or so until today when i decided to take her for a rip,
started up easy peasy but no drive!!!! i've checked everything...I mean EVERYTHING!

Clutch-perfect, stripped out, used wet and dry to give it a bit of a 'key'.
Slipper-perfect, stripped out, nothing to report, nothing worn etc.
Trans-seems good, stripped out, nothing visually wrong, cleaned all pawls, all free and put back together.
Drive shafts-perfect, all there, nothing broken.

The thing just wont select a gear, forward or reverse!
I have to stress this truck is in immaculate condition, it's never been abused.

Sorry to waffle on, but, any advice would be much appreciated.

Make sure the servo is moving far enough to engage the gear you're looking for. If not, adjust it.
You should also disconnect the servo and shift the trans by hand. If it still won't shift that way, you have an internal problem.
When it's running, see if the output shaft on the trans is turning. If it is, see where the drive STOPS turning and look for a broken or missing pin. You might see a grub screw in there, but the pin might have broken off.

Thanks Rolex,

Still no good. I tried the points you made but still no drive. the servo works fine, no adjustment needed. the output shaft turns as it should but from there on there's nothing. AGAIN I took the trans apart and nothing is visually broken, all the pins on which the pawls would bite on to are intact, the pawls themselves are clean and moving freely by hand, it's a weird one.

I wonder if the one way bearing is playing up? although on inspection it seems to work fine, providing it is working in the right direction?!!

any other ideas on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated
thanks!

If the output shafts from the transmission are turning, are you sure there isn't a missing grub screw from the diff end of the drive shaft? The next check would be the diffs, but it would be unusual to strip both at the same time.

Thanks for your response Racer
Prohaps i have my wires crossed a little, the two shafts that the drive shafts attach to are not spinning. the shafts and diffs are all perfect.
Where as the small shaft on the back of the trans is spinning (Primary shaft).

I agree with Racer. If the output shaft turns but the drive doesn't, you probably have a broken pin. You'll need to completely remove it to make sure it's intact and not snapped inside.

At the point where the turning stops, is where you have the problem.
Trans output turns and nothing turns past that? Take apart the shaft right there.

I know this doesn't shed any light on your immediate problem, but this would be a good time to get rid of reverse and that crappy pawl clutch. Installing a forward only conversion makes for a much stouter tranny, gets rid of all the finicky junk that causes problems like these and makes for far better acceleration. Best $10 I ever spent on a Maxx.
