Stuck sleeve has to be away out!!!

Ok i decided i was going to try to rebuild my old savage 25 motor just for a back up. I can't get the sleeve out, i tried doing the zip tie through the exhaust port and it wouldnt work, i heated it up and tried hitting the sleeve from the back plate area, and still no go, is there a tool i can get more force on the sleeve with? I was using a actual drum stick because it is wood and i didnt want to damage it....

Been there bud.....took me 3 days to get mine out. The NS-25 is famous for the sleeve sticking in the block. There really is nothing else to do but heat the block up quickly with a heat gun and have some sturdy cable ties ready. Make sure you put the cable tie through the exhaust AND the intake port. It makes a big difference.

awwe no! I just bought a Mach427, i really like it even though i only got 6 tanks through it because i started breaking things and then was told to order incorrect parts lol... hopefully i will not break something for a little while...

I just wanted to fix my N-25 as a backup the mach will deffinitly get rebuilt if the N-25 turns out ok.

Take it and soak the whole block in penetrating oil or clean diesel fuel...The best way would be to soak it for an hour or 2,pull it out,wipe it down and freeze the engine overnight in a freezer bag ,pull it out and then heat the aluminum with a heatgun while using the ziptie to force the sleeve up to dislodge it before the sleeve has a chance to heat-up and expand.............sometimes just soaking and freezing them does the trick

The sleeve is a denser metal and will expand more than the aluminum or with it if its heated too long and will keep them stuck together because thats the same general idea as to how the sleeve stays tight and compression doesn't wander behind the sleeve when the engine is hot and thermally expanded...freezing shrinks the denser sleeve metal tighter than the aluminum to create room for dis-assembly..

hmmm, so freezing would work better then heating it up? Ill try it, i probly ruined the sleeve a little already, but ill check it out once its out of the engine.

lol pitbull this happend to me.Check if your pin is lined with the sleeve.If not your engine is ruined.

Yeah i would like to know! I dont think a tool would of been able to get the sleeve out of my old engine though. It did run too before i took it apart! It had no torque though, and once it heated up if it stalled it wouldnt start.

I was going to try to pinch the sleeve myself just to see if i could do it.

i dont think it would be hard to make a tool to pull stuck sleeves..just make something similar to a cam bearing installation/removal tool for our normal daily driving cars..all it really is is a 3 tooth tool that opens when you unscrew an adjuster prying the teeth open into the bearing then u pull the bearings out

But that would damage the inside of the piston sleeve. Something to pop it out from underneath would probly be safer

well yeah i understand it would damage the sleeve. but more than likely there is damage done to the sleeve in the first place to be removing it in the first place

I had a stuck engine sleeve and all I did was put the piston as low as it could, put my clean thumb in there, gripped a port and pulled it out. Came out really easy

dry ice packed in sleeve(piston just below ports), 20 minutes, low heat gun setting on the block @ 100C or so, a sturdy pop-sicle stick now try and pop her out...this works for me without damaging precious nitro reciprocating components...you might need to modify something to your preference though...

Best method

Assuming you stripped the crankcase down, throw it in the oven on 350 degrees for like 10 to 15 min to expand the crankcase, make sure you handle it with a thick pair of leather gloves. place the crankcase edge over a wooden block just far enough to not cover the sleeve and bang it down on something hard, works every time! also good for removing bearings!

heres my idea. heat the crankcase with a small butane tourch, radio shack has one. heat the case real hot then plunge it in to cold water, wait for it to cool then take it apart
